Yes, it is very likely that the yellow chicks will be buffs. I hope they are all hens, buff cochins are such pretty little things, and every cochin bantam I've ever owned has been sweet and friendly, unlike silkies, where I've had a few "bad apples" in the roos.
Do you coop your turkeys at night or do they just get to roost where ever they want?

Nothing I really value (includes the turkeys) free ranges at all. I just don't have the confidence they can elude predators (and other hazards). Turkeys need more room than chickens (obviously, because they are larger), so they always have a run of some sort, and a well-protected coop area to roost in.

Wow, they were NOT cooperating with me this morning! Everyone was super excited and jumping and flapping all around. I was making noises at them to get them to stand still (hence the struts lol). So what do you guys think? The 3 little Bourbon reds are 12 weeks old but hens or Toms?

I tried this is the turkey thread but I thought I'd try here for some local expertise.

Wanted to post the progress on my sister's coop. I really didn't get much done yesterday because I had to go pick up (and catch!) the chickens from my FIL and then drive all the way back to Pittsburgh yesterday. And it was so hot yesterday that I wasn't very productive even in the little time I did have. They have no shade thete and it was nearly 100 degrees... pretty sure i had a little heat exhaustion going on. So all I did yesterday was the doors, the rest was all done on Sunday. I was hoping to have the siding all up before I came home but that didn't happen. Still pretty good for a days worth of work and $30 in wood! All my sister will have to do is finish nailing up the pallet wood for the siding and put a roof on. I expect I'll be helping her finish up when I bring her chickens back for her on Halloween weekend, lol. She's going to enjoy finishing and painting it, but she's not a builder, hahaha. Will post pictures of the finished coop at Halloween time!

Doors - they are going to try to get some old hinges from his brother so they aren't hung yet

There are tracks for a run door that will slide up and down, just need to finish siding this wall and the wall under the window (they'll put plexiglass glass over the windows in the winter). The legs are each going to get a second 2x4, but they are going to add some old lawn mower wheels so they can move it each season (closer to the house in the winter, out by the garden in the summer).

Nest box just needs to be covered with pallet wood and have a hinged door. This window will be covered w plexiglass for the winter too.

AND, my girls lost the plans that I drawn up so I had to build from memory! I let the girls hold onto the plans when we were picking up the wood from Lowe's on Saturday... I don't think they made it back to the car because I could not find them anywhere.

Awesome! I absolutely love my bantam Cochin that Wing gave to me. She is very sweet and gentle, and is now earning her marks as an excellent Mama! One your eggs that hatched is a runt, and is a light gray. It's so cute and small, I'm tempted to keep it if it does turn out to be hen. D@mn that chicken math!

Thank you everyone. I was excited to build it. We went to pick up 4 hens and a rooster Sunday and came home with 9 hens and 2 roos.....What was I thinking... Chicken math. So now to start on the second coop....

It's inevitable! I never thought I would fall prey. But here I am...

And Lacey is busy with her 10... she had them out and about today, though the littles aren't too sure about coming out into the big world.

Eventually she did get them all out with her...and they are off to learn more about how to be good little chickens.
