Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Since MotorcycleChick mentioned it, does anyone need any poults? I have a surplus and since the chicken train will be rolling through soon, I could send some along :) I think I've successfully populated my area with early poults lol.

Also, a while back someone mentioned a big swap coming up somewhere. Clearfield maybe? Any info on that?

The only thing I can offer on that is that it is Usually in May. Mother's Day weekend seems to be a thing.
I would kinda like a poult to raise for.. "You know" but I am waiting patiently to get some of my own from the person I gave mine to.

Hello! I'm brand new to BYC and am happy to meet so many fellow Pennsylvanians! My daughter and I are living with my cousin in Southeast Pennsylvania, not a mile from the Delaware border. We're in the process of setting up our coop, and we just purchased four young hens who are going to be ready to pick up around the beginning of June (one buff laced Polish, a golden Wyandotte, a barred rock, and a speckled Sussex!)
Welcome! Build a bigger coop, you'll need it once you get started. I was going to have 3-4 chickens in my backyard in the burbs, now I have 8 and a turkey poult....
Anne in the burbs: Have a bunch of feed bags saved for you.....are you interested in them?
Can you hold them for me for now? I have a bunch here because my Mom used to help me with them, but since she passed I will have to do them all myself and learn how to use her machine.
Thanks for relaying the first hand experience! I may soon be taking on the responsibility of becoming groundskeeper/caretaker of a 15 acre bed and breakfast/farm. The owners want some friendly livestock and 4-5 different breeds of chickens. All basically just eye candy, not trying to have a petting zoo or riding lessons or anything like that. Just animals to add to the country/farm atmosphere. I know there will be sheep and a few horses. As far as chickens, I know I want sultans and/or polish, Cemani or Svart Hona... Looking for 2/3 other breeds. Was considering Breda or Brahmas for something bigger but docile...open to suggestions. Just want 4-5 distinctly different looking breeds.
That sounds awesome! I would recommend silkies and bantam Cochins for variety. They always get the most comments around here.
I have a few free range chickens (translation: escapees). I find one or two eggs in the goat shed every day. The goat shed is inside of a very secure (goat tight so far) 5 foot fence! Amazingly, they rarely get broken by the goats.
That is amazing. Always interesting where they decide to lay....
Just wanted to share a pic of my silkies. I've had them for a week now and I love them so much. Crossing my fingers for more hens than roos
Gorgeous! Congrats!
Lol thanks! I'm hoping to resist chicken math for as long as possible, but already the allure of breeding a polish with a silkie is proving too much to bear lol!
Do it! Do it!
North of Scranton here, what a wonderful forum this is, so helpful and loaded with information for dummies like me... Lori
Welcome! Plenty of people here willing to share information and enable.... Ha!
This is about to get VERY interesting! This will be my biggest hatch to date (so far)

Wowza! What are you going to do with them all?
You need a helper to record the action for you. Here is a video link a customer sent me of 2 Cream Legbar pullets they bought from me. They are about 7 weeks old:
Those 2 little chicks are doing great now. I love to see the chicks I hatch grow up in nice homes.
That's awesome! My Rhodebar is doing wonderful. She's an excellent layer, although she's a ninja, so fast! She always hops in my neighbor's yard every day to get the leftovers from under his birdfeeder. Thankfully, he doesn't care, and she hops right back over when she's done! :D

Does the chipmunk colored lady look like a welsumer chick, that is what they thought it was at Myers.
Congrats! Now comes the fun!
Westmoreland County. Raising Quail.
Welcome!

Welcome to BYC!

I don't think an easter egger that was not on the list of available chicks she there....she had RIR welsumer white Cornish and one more on the list but can't remember what the last was. The one in question I go becauseyour 2 sussex didn't make it i, however they will be in tomorrow and I think that means I have to check myathletes as I may be 2 chickens, short and may have to add 2 Speckled sussex to my new flock.
It seems Welsummers should be the only chipmunk chicks in the list. I got my chicks as 3 day old instead of one day old, so they are not as fluffy as yours. Congratulations! You have very nice breeds of chickens. I like Speckled Sussex too.

Whew! Been a few days since I checked the thread. You all have been busy! Today was the first day I felt really good after the flu. So I cleaned my coop, and boy, did it need it! This week I will be cleaning up the rest of the yard and porch. There's always something to do!

Btw, we are having our roof replaced this spring, any tips from someone who has dealt with that before? We are having several people give us bids. I'm pretty good at seeing through bs thankfully!
