Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

The seller of our new home invited us up yesterday so we could look over some improvements he was going to make. And maybe buy his tractor, haha! I was scoping the area to see where I could put my coop. I think I have an idea, but I need to clear out some area. I will need to take down some brush and maybe some saplings. At least it will be in the beginning of September when the weather will be cooling a bit. I'm so excited!!

Anne:

I think you need to get some goats....let them clear out the brush....when's your settlement date???

Good afternoon all:

Welcome to the nebie's and the lurkers....

So, here's my hatch so far.....x4 olive eggers and one CCL girl...

Wha't funny is I was expecting all CCLs, seems #3 roo is playing milkman...thought I be getting OE's from my BCM girls....go figure...and
as disappointed as I was the performance of my CCL boys, a RedTail made a pass around the property this afternoon, the CCL boys gathered the girls up under protection then #1 stood guard while #2 went out in the open to challenge the hawk.....go figure....

lastly, I was checking on the unhatched eggs and herd some chirping, so maybe a late comer may arrive....on a percentage basis, my best hatch yet....

was canning some peach halves this morning and heard the biggest ruckus out near the girls...they were just going OFF
D.gif
..
apparently a ground hog made an appearance, scaring both himself and the girls...DH and I went out to make sure he realized he wasn't to stay around here...we will see...

got those peach halves finished...they are the first I have ever 'put up'...only did a few, so we can taste test before the rest of the peaches on the tree are ready. I am not quite sure how much sugar we like in them. I use raw sugar, when I bake I automatically use half the amount or less stated in a recipe....again, we will see.

Welcome!! Cool! The friend that is homing my chickens in Media has peafowl also. I remmeber her saying they take long time ( in comparison with chickens) to sexually mature. I think she said something like 3 years. Whew! BTW, do you have Muscovys? I was just reading about how wonderful they are for bug eating! Just be careful, I just read the other day you should not be in the shower or bath even when a storm hits. It is possibly to get struck by lightning if it hits your pipes (or something like that). wow! What an awesome picture! You are creating such beautiful memories for her. She will treasure that forever when she is older. :hugs You two are terrible with the enabling. But I agree DHeltzel, giving her some eggs is the best way to break a broody. :duc
Muscovies are great at eating anyway. I think the Pekins are better. It isn't enabling, it is helping. And yes. Broodies need eggs. Duckling is more help than one would believe. She is making my life better than I could ever make her's.

My eyes went right to the booster seat. :th I'm sure you made the peaches perfect. You did say you wanted light syrup.

dheltzel, do you happen to have any pictures of that olive egger hen that is a Welsummer/Cream Legbar cross? And do you have any pictures of her eggs? I just got an olive egger chick from Meyer Hatchery that looks to be from their Welsummer/Legbar line, and I'd love to know what she might look like when she grows up--she is 2 weeks now. Thanks!
They look exactly like the pure Legbars, I have no idea which hen is laying the olive eggs. Olive eggs are always quite variable. They often have darker spots typical of Welvummers, but not always. A few were even closer to grey than olive in color.

Our Peas are 3 years old now, some eggs were fertile last year, but only 1 chick hatched. Only 1 so far this year too. They are just harder to incubate apparently.

I've never had Muscovies. We have roving bands of guineas, I can't imagine the muscovies would be any better than the guineas, though they are quieter.

I did that on purpose...

, not..hahaha here's your sign...
I did want light syrup...hoping it is okay and not too over powering. we put a jar in the fridge, tomorrow we will eat'em...

we checked on the tree and there are some we have to pick tomorrow, not sure how many at this point, DH will handle that while I snap beans, wash them & get everything together to make bean salad, then I will can that up on Friday. I like to let it sit (fridge) over night to make sure everything absorbs well. If he picks enough peaches tomorrow morning, i will be canning those as well...this is really a super busy time of year, well....to be honest, this craziness started in june with the strawberries and it hasn't stopped.

We are now starting to get into the tomatoes....they are a little easier. I will put them in the freezer till I am ready to sauce/can them.....Same with the blackberries, they are coming on now too, i just put those in bags, freeze till i have the time to can. I'll be making pie filling with them this year, i did jam last year, still have jars of that.
Have blueberries and strawberries to make into filling also....it will be nice to jar them up in the fall/winter, when the house needs a little heat

**Anne- It's all in good love...

,enabling is how we all show each other that we truly care...they really, really care...especially MC, cause now she is throwing ducks at me

I would like a few more chickens, maybe next spring, and NO, I don't count meat birds..still trying to teach "chicken math" to DH...you know his mind isn't as 'pliable' as mine...that is probably and good thing. Have to keep our checks and balances, right?....right?
