Is it normal for goats to sleep all day? I'm sure I'm being a worry wort about them. I sat with them for awhile. They just ignored me. They watched me set some apple by them and don't mind if I let them. But they've just been laying together all morning.

I don't know if that is 'normal' and I'm sure one of the folks on here with goats can chime in....but with all of the stress they have gone through with the move they may be exhausted from nerves and not being able to rest last night. Keep an eye on their eating, drinking and how the poop looks though.

It's pretty normal for my goats to lounge around in the sun on a day like today. I imagine yours are adjusting right now and settling in, so probably more tired than usual. Are they chewing their cud? That's a good sign.

ETA: a little late for this advice, but keeping them on the same diet as what they had before is important. Gradually change them to something new, if you plan to do so. Free choice baking soda for bloat.

I asked her what she was feeding at the beginning of the week so I could have the same here for them. They are a little bit last night but I haven't seen them stand up yet today. I'm sure they are probably fine I just feel bad for them. They were in a herd of about 30 and I'm guessing that's an adjustment too. I've been working around their pen all day and they were watching me the whole time. We'll be friends soon I'm sure. I'm just nervous I think. Thank you!

Day 29 for the broody. When she got up today, the egg that I noticed was cracked was empty. She ate it!

No signs of pips for the other ones. I know it's still within normal time frames, but when should I think about pitching the eggs?

Yuck! I hope the other eggs hatch out ok! And that the mama doesn't eat any more lol!

here are my peeps from Sally Sunshine, outside for their second night in a row- I hope the weather doesn't take a drastic turn and I can keep them out there! They are OEs, Icelandics and Crele Orpingtons...which is which, I could not tell you.

I'm sure from stress and getting used to their new environment, they will be tired for a little while. How old are they? As long as they are eating and drinking well, and aren't too lethargic, I think they're ok. Just try to spend a lot of time with them and let them get used to you and that you aren't going to hurt them. I bet in a week they'll be much better!

What should I look for when candling the eggs under her tonight? Usually it just looks dark with a decent air cell. The cracked one did seem sloshy when I checked last night, but I didn't want to jiggle the others around.
Who's ready to go where? :p

Look for any internal pips (break will be up in the air cell) and movement. Movement will be hard to see this close to hatch though if they aren't internally pipped yet.

Thanks! I checked them tonight and it looks like maybe three of them pipped internally. Three looked like they had clear air cells, but the other couple looked like something was in the air cell, I couldn't see through it as well. None of the chicken eggs look like they have internally pipped, that I can tell. Fingers crossed!

Sounds very encouraging! You may see babies tomorrow morning.

Yep I second the above, you should see external pips tomorrow and possibly babies tomorrow! Our first chick of the second set hatched today. So we have 5 2-week olds, and the 1 newborn. 2 more eggs to go. Then I'm done. Or am I? Yes I am... Maybe?
