Lol, did they have a good time?

I think so! They ran up and down like five times then I walked them back to pen and we went sledding some more. I took a nap after lol. Too old for all that up and down lol

I have not taken my goats sledding, looks fun.

Here's my Dreamer, she's not due until the end of May. She's already huge.

So my coop is not insulated but I have closed all but 1 vent to help keep the cold wind from getting in. When I go inside with the girls it is pretty warm. My only concern is them getting bored. Is that a problem with chickens? I give them food to scratch around for on the ground, but other than that they don't have any toys. Any suggestions? They have been in for a few days already and will probably be in until Friday. Poor girls! I hope this is the last winter storm this year!

So my coop is not insulated but I have closed all but 1 vent to help keep the cold wind from getting in. When I go inside with the girls it is pretty warm. My only concern is them getting bored. Is that a problem with chickens? I give them food to scratch around for on the ground, but other than that they don't have any toys. Any suggestions? They have been in for a few days already and will probably be in until Friday. Poor girls! I hope this is the last winter storm this year!

We've been hanging fresh or dried ears of corn from their perch or ceiling for something to do. I got the fresh stuff from aldis. And I made them some soup. That kept them busy warm and I let some freeze and they took all day to peck at.
So the chicken count since hubby left is 4 standard laying hens, two very small laying hens, and 13 1-2 week old bantam chicks. He knows about 6 of those. Yeah I'm in trouble but he knows it makes me happy and we've both wanted this since we were young so I think it'll be more of a teasing than anything else. And I will only keep some of the babies. Want to play around with my Banty roo and I have a bunch of friends that will take some once they're older lol. He really likes the Bantams and is curious about what Zappas babies would look like with different girls. I just can't get over how tiny they are! And almost everyone has pasty butt!

That's a good idea, I know my chickens loved corn in the summer! Thank you. I'm happy for you and your new chicks! Mine are large fowl, so they are getting big fast!

Be careful, pasty butt can be a sign of chicks getting too cold. When I was a newbie, I lost 4 chicks because they were all too cold, so I hope you can go check and make sure the heat lamp is warm and close enough to them. Give them a spot that they can move out from the heat and they will find a balance that they prefer.

I think they are good now. My brooder temps out okay I think tractor supply didn't have it warm enough for them. Think I might call and mention it to them tomorrow but not sure if they'd care. The ones from Corey are fine. But almost everyone from peach steet had to get it cleaned off this morning.

Yeah seriously! I feel bad for the birds. I couldn't feel my fingers when I came back in from grabbing the food dishes and killing the lights!

Ugh I feel bad for them too. The wood for the coop is all buried in the mountain of snow outside so I'm just hoping it melts soon so we can get to work

Aww! What breed are they? Hubby wants a few goats and I told him we should get a few nigerian dwarfs.

They are Nigerian Dwarf goats, we have 3 that are bred so we expect LOTS of babies this year. The first one is due in mid April.

Today I got a turkey egg! I'm so happy because that means Wheezy is now laying! The other turkey is broody, so I know it wasn't her. Wheezy also laid it in the nest box. Now I know she is all better from her wheezy cough. So thankful for that Vetrx stuff! Now for the happy dance!

Yayyy!  Are you going to change her name now?

Her eggs are fertile! I accidentally dropped some eggs last night and it had a perfect bullseye! I am going to put them aside and incubate them. I may give a few to the broody turkey also, she seems to have stayed put in one place now.

Today is lockdown for this week's hatch.

10 turkeys
3 silkies
9 or 10 lav ameraucanas (@fisherlady) there should be plenty!

Awesome! Dheltzel gave me a few Lav eggs for my broody. Fingers crossed for both of our hatches!

. Do you know how many babies she has in there? Every time we tell someone we have more land with chickens and turkeys now, the next question is, when do the goats come?

They will be okay for a few days. Some treats may help, but just remember, some chickens spend their whole lives being penned up. Ours live a lovely life, and a few days of being "grounded" won't hurt them.
