Someone told me that turkeys and chickens cannot share the same coop, fact or fiction?
I'm not sure if this has been answered yet - The risk of housing turkeys and chickens together is 'Black Head'. So in areas where Black Head is prevalent, you do not want to house them together. Mine run together and I haven't had any problems, but I house them seperately.
I heard this question come up at a class before and Dr. Greg Martin (Lancaster, PA Avian Vet) said something like, -'Different species should never be houses together because of the greater likelihood of disease being spread. Although, 'I' have been to many farms where chickens, turkeys and water fowl are houses together. People just do it, and it works for them. Commercial growers can not risk it.'
