Once the weather starts to get warmer I am thinking of making a pen for some baby or young turkeys. I want to get at lest a pair to breed. What is the best breed for that? And also would be good to have out with my chickens?
You will love turkeys! Any of the heritage turkeys are good for this. According to Glenn Drowns (Sand Hill Preservation Center, author of one of Story's poultry books) the Spanish Black is the most disease resistant of the various strains. I have never had those, but the Royal Palms and Mottled Blacks I breed are pretty tough birds.Once the weather starts to get warmer I am thinking of making a pen for some baby or young turkeys.
