Pheasants are very flighty compared to chickens. You definitely can not let them free range - they will take off and you will never get them back.Any idea where I could get pheasants to raise with my chickens? Does anyone here have any experience with them? My husband hunts them but I think they're gorgeous birds and would love to raise some as pets.
Ringneck pheasants are cheap, but they are also rather aggressive, so watch them closely. Golden pheasant males are gorgeous. They are smaller than most chickens, but would probably do fine with enough cover to hide in. I have a trio of the goldens I am trying to acclimate to live with the peafowl. The are very skittish and I am rather afraid they will hurt themselves trying to flee from me or the peafowl.
