That's a really handsome young man. How about his behaviors?
Very handsome! Hopefully he treats the girls well!

So far, he is quite the gentleman. He's talking nice to the girls, he did his dance once that I saw and he's been calling them to any food he finds. The girls seem to have deemed him acceptable. At first, one hen came storming up to him to size him up and another ran screaming lol but that didn't last long. He's even completely ignoring the threatening show that the ameraucana roo in the pen next door is putting on.

I love my splash rooster. He is my favorite ❤

I have several Cochins, standards, though no bantams. I adore them, but have had no success with them as broody moms yet. They are workhorse egg layers though! They are broad-breasted, but I don’t know how meaty they are. They will probably end up in the mix. I’m thinking Silkie primarily for their breeding proclivities, the point is to make tasty little tenders that breed like Tribbles.😂
Bantams are nothing like LF cochins with regard to broodiness. I find them to be as crazy about brooding as the silkies.

BTW, I have a group of 5 bantam hens and a roo that I want to find a new home for. They are silkies or silkie/cochin crosses (silkichins ?). 2 of the hens are older and probably stopped laying, but are broody all the time. 1 is broody now. The rest are their babies from last year that they co-parented with 2 cochin roos (who passed over the winter). Last summer these crazy hens were hatching chicks and not getting up to show them how to eat, they stayed on the remaining eggs and let the cochin roos do the parenting. It worked, 4 of the 6 in this group were hatched by the silkies and raised by their daddys, the cochin roos. I am pretty sure they will do the same this year if I don't get the eggs out every day.

Wow, that would be perfect!🥰 If you would like to rehome them, I would love to have them. So much more fun than an incubator! They might even teach my LFs a thing or two. They would have a pen separate from my LFs. I will PM you.❤

You were right about the Marans, BTW. There might be more girls in the group than I thought. I am so inexperienced with sexing chicks, I just don’t have the eye for it yet. I had the older 3 and my 3 Renninger chicks out for a while in the small pen today. Behavior-wise, it looked almost 1/2 and 1/2. Of the youngest 3 that stayed in the brooder, I’m almost certain at least 1 of them is a girl, the other 2 no idea. It’s kinda fun, actually.🥰

Joy (the white) had me a little worried with that bright pink comb, but on closer examination, I saw that someone had taken a bite out of it and it’s just swollen. All her behavior screams female. She’s a real looker, no?🥰

Since school is canceled, and now they are saying it could extend into the next school year, I’m more concerned about Duckling falling behind.
It was brought to my attention, via an email, that kindergarteners are supposed to be doing online learning at this time. She’s doing letters right now, and I’m drinking coffee. Suddenly I hear, “you gotta fight! For your right! To paaaaarty!” :gig I played that twice during a three day span of music education last week. I really didn’t think she was paying attention.
By the way, ten apples, minus three bananas, is ten apples.

You have any friends that home school? Those mothers are gold mines for advice about how to keep kids learning when not in a classroom.

Our schools are only closed until April 6th as of now. My son is angry and wants to be back. They're doing fine being home but they're bored...at least he is. He's used to doing school, band, chorus, then musical rehearsal after school, dinner and chores then bed. Now it's just chores, then he's clueless what to do all day. No online schooling has been set up for them as of now. DD is quite content. She talks to her friends on Snapchat and has decided to rearrange her room. She's not missing anything lol
