When Duckling was 4, the dog accidentally (I think) killed a hen. I had Fisherlady here to show me how to process before, but this was my first solo time. I didn’t know how Duckling would react, but as I said to her, I couldn’t waste the meat. She was mesmerized by everything, and you’ve never seen a happier child as she ate her chicken tenders half an hour later. It’s not a shock anymore when she says, “I want nuggets, can we kill a chicken?”

Well, I successfully vaccinated about 20 chicks this morning.

If they used a "gun" like the hatcheries (and I) use for Marek's vaccines, those Covid vaccinations would go MUCH faster.

I am so glad you are doing this! The University of Penn vet told me since I had Marek's in my flock to only get vaccinated chicks from then on.

Looking for some advice. What's the best way to get rid of an unwanted rooster? I'm thinking of Craigslist. I don't mind if he ends up in someone else's pot, but my kids won't tolerate it happening here.

He's a 9-month-old white leghorn, so I don't know if anyone would want him, or even want to eat him. (At least I think that's what he is. We got him from TSC. He wasn't a pullet as we thought, and I think the breeds were also mislabeled. Not buying chicks there again.) He's handsome and nice with his hens, both chickens and guineas, but he has a bad attitude toward humans that no amount of handling has been able to erase.

Has anyone had luck with Craigslist? Or know any other avenue I should explore?

I gave away a sweet roo (same deal TSC-and he
was supposed to be pullet)to someone on craigslist who wanted him as a pet. I hope he stayed sweet!

Same here. My only problem is my son wants an ameraucana and Dennis doesn't have pullets available. So I decided to try my luck with online order once. Next time, I just get chicks from Dennis. I already start to worry about getting a roo. We are considering to get ducklings from him, so maybe a few extra legbar wouldn't hurt. My legbar is almost one year old and never laid an egg yet. Since they have Marek, i don't know if she will ever lay any egg. My son thinks she is too cute to lay eggs any way.

Never mind! I actually found somebody! Turns out there's a feed store where I can just drop him off and they'll rehome him! It's a bit out of my way, but not too bad. Well worth a little drive! They can't take him until next week (snow issues in their holding area), but I can deal with him until then.

This is such a relief to me!
