Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Adam the pampered rooster is now in a quarantine pen at the farm where he can crow as much as he wants. He is going to have some changes in his future to adjust to, but I think he will do fine.

In other news, I have some celedon Coturnix quail that have just started laying their bright blue eggs. Very pretty little eggs, and birds.

And I am getting some goose eggs next Monday to incubate. Geese are among the hardest of poultry to incubate, so this will be a good test for my newest and most high-tech incubator. I will program it to run a daily cooling cycle to simulate the mother getting off the eggs to eat/drink/bathe. Also, the eggs will lay on their sides instead of upright in the trays.

@dhelzel I like that, "Adam the pampered rooster." Please convey to Adam that his ladies are rather forlorn without him. They waited for him outside the coop until it was quite dark, and then weren't sure how to roost without him ordering them about. These gals need to get liberated!

If anyone in SE PA is looking for a boy, I have two of Adam's 2-month old sons seeking a non-suburban venue so they will be free to crow when the time for that comes.

I appreciate the sentiment and humor. Hens really do like having roos to take care of them. When I see some hens dist bathing while a large roo stands guard, I picture them having a "spa day" with the roosters as the attendents.

Today I was picking up some goose eggs to incubate. I was talking with my friend about the geese and she asked me to keep her in mind if I ever got a really nice, well behaved rooster, as her flock of hens needed a protector . . .

2 hours later -- Adam is doing his dance and totally befuddled by 50+ hens that have not had a rooster around for some time.

I just saw this! Amazing. I am so happy.

I have a friend looking for Maran or Welsummer a couple young just started laying or going to start laying hens. Does anyone have any available?
Welbar! Better than Welsummmer! Try Dennis!
