Im located like near Delaware almost.

That is pretty close. I was in East stroudsburg twice last week. I have cousins that live near Mt Pocono.

I was out your way about 2 weeks ago heading up 209 to go eagle watching. We saw 6 eagles including a nesting pair.

There are a lot of them out that way there are a lot by Culver lake (off of 206) as well. They fly over our property on occasion, thankfully they seem to be more concerned with the fish than my chickens.

I'm not a fan of eagles, at least in my neighborhood. Last fall, I had forgotten to let my chickens out in the morning, so I went up to do it after work. Before I got the chicken house door open, my dog had run over to the duck pen, where all the ducks were oddly squished into the front of their enclosure. Then I saw that there was a big bird sitting behind their pen. I figured it was a turkey vulture and that on of my young chickens must have gotten out and died.

As the dog went around the pen to investigate, the bird flew and it turned out to be an adult bald eagle. As it flew off, it stayed low to the ground, with the dog running behind as if to escort it out of his territory. When the eagle got to the edge of the woods, the dog turned and came back. It was back for a few days afterward, and hubby got a nice photo of it sitting on a fence post. Haven't seen it for a while, thankfully.

I've only seen 1 eagle fly over our house, but we are having a problem with the hawks. One hen was killed and another ended up wounded to the point of needing stitches for a hole in her crop and stitches to close the wounds in her skin.

I'd never seen a hawk on our property..until the day my carpenter was building the coop! I think the hawk knew what was being built!

We have hawks here every day. The Harrier and the Red-tail are the only two that really worry me, especially the Harrier, she is gigantic. The cooper's and sharpshinned are too small to make off with a chicken (I suppose they could damage them though).

I would still be concerned about the Cooper's Hawk. One got one of my hens about 6 weeks ago. It couldn't fly away with the larger bird after the kill, but came back several times to feed on the carcass.


BTW, I'm from Huntingdon originally. Are any of you around Raystown Lake or thereabouts?
