rodriguez...do you have the chickens...or the honey???

So I've given up on talking to chickens. I've decided that since I can't seem to convince children (which are supposed to be intelligent beings) to do the right thing, why in the world would I expect chickens to know their boundries???? I'm sitting in my living room watching my chickens and duck graze on the front lawn...5 ft from a state road...a heavily traveled state road. Guess we will soon find out why the chicken crossed the road!:/

Also on the subject of animal intelligence....last night came home from my cake tasting (BTW, if anyone is ever in Carlisle, you MUST stop at Carlisle Bakery, their brownies are AMAZING (not my first choice of words..but children's eyes and all) so anyway...cake tasting come home...cheep! cheep! cheep! cheep! I assume that the ducklings are out of water...again! So down to the basement I go. Sitting on the floor is my female cat. Running merrily about cheeping her fool head off is the Salmon Favorelle chick from beaglady! She'd hopped out of her brooder box, and she and the sebright chick were cheeping away in search of each other! Put her back in the box, they cuddled right up and were happy as 2 peas in a pod. And yes, sadly there is only 1 sebright chick...I think the other one got squished to death :( .

Anything yet Ms. mama?! I'm on pins and needles for you!!!!!!

I'm SO done with hatching as well. In my case though, it is the Langshan mothers that are not done with me. BUT, I get to have fun hatching babies for mama...and then make her take them back! Mwahahahahaha!!!!!!
How are they looking??

Nothing new yet...

we have bees... but no honey! Honey the second year I'm told. Otherwise, I would definitely have your back!
MsLadyHawks eggies are of the Bantam Wyndotte persuasion. The eggs are so teeny tiny (smaller than my Banty Cochins) we considered using the quail rails, and probably could have! Except I had to go and add some of my own and as some are Jumbo Leghorn eggs, quail rails just weren't going to cut it for everyone.

We should do more bartering here!! I would take some of that honey for sure.

What color wyandottes?

Not to argue, but you can get honey during the first year. I harvested 30 pounds of spring honey before mid-June this year. It came from 2 hives that started as 5-frame nucs from hive-reared queens. As hot and dry as it has been here in SE Michigan, my bees are thriving and producing like crazy. I need to add more deep supers and I'm expecting about 100 pounds from each hive in a few weeks.

BTW I've been keeping bees for 20 some years and I had to completely start from scratch at the end of April. Good luck with your colonies.

FINALLY got some! Got some raw spread AND filtered honey. It helps SO much with my allergies.

Don't know yet mama2my4. Haven't candled them yet! I'm to ascared!

I put them in on Saturday evening, I was gonna wait until Saturday to candle. I just got done taking some very poor photos of my "keeper" Langshan pullets this year.

On a side note, that little blue cockerel went to his new home today!

RaZ, thanks for the info! We are new to beekeeping, so any info I can get, I'll take. Maybe your bees are overachievers? or are mine lazy? We still don't have enough brood to get through winter (so I'm told), so we are still hoping to add frames for as long as they'll collect. Although if they wanna give my honey THIS year, I won't say no.

Rodriguez: Yay on rehoming that gorgeous boy! Although he was quite the looker, I'm sure it wasn't hard.
