Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I went out to the coop this morning to find my new buff brahma roo dead. Don't know what happened, he was just dead. :( My son is so upset

I'm soo... sorry! Feeling your pain, I just got home from church, kids went out to ice the chicken water, and my daughter came in crying. The new Golden Necked D'Uccle roo was dead. No good reason why, but this morning didn't seem quite right. On top of that, the eggs I just set 3 days ago, DONE!!! Breaker blew overnight, woke up to cold eggs.

Something good must be getting ready to happen!!!

Hey Mama2my4, CONGRATS!!!! I'm so happy you got 9 out of 10!! Good things are going around. I found a breeder who lives about 30 minutes from my Mom and we went and picked up 4 new bantams today!!!
Questions for all:
We are introducing the new chicks with our 1 hen. She is puffing her breast and starting the pecking order. How long will this go on? Will she hurt anyone? Should I be doing something different?
HELP! I'm new at this!!

:-/

I just saw your other posting! I'm so sorry you lost your buff : ( AND I'm sorry Gardeningmama. Good things are right around the corner for both of you.

I am so sorry :(

Gals, I'm sorry to hear of the losses today. They may be "just chickens" to some people, but to us, they've become part of the family.

I hope for the sake of others that the cause(s) will be discovered and that info might help others prevent similar tragedies.

Regards,
kamir

Momma2my: sorry about your buff baby, that is the absolute worst when it is one of the kids favorites! I haven't seen an eye like that before.

Gardenin: sorry about the D'Uccle, but don't give up on those eggs! A temp spike is much worse than a drop. A broody will get off her eggs at times to eat and such and the eggs drop in temp, if you still have them, plug back in and cross your fingers!

MsLadyHawk picked up her trio of cuties.

Kamir, well said. To many here, the chooks are our babies.

Look what I got tonight!!!! Penny is only 17-weeks-old, and she laid an egg! Woo hoo! I was HOPING for an egg by 20 weeks. I am stunned she is laying so early!! isn't it so CUTE?!?!
For those that have lost roosters today, I am sorry. TAKE SOME OF MINE!

one of my little cochins (just born) has a weird eye. It is much smaller that the other. What do you think this could be from?

Okay, I think your baby chick is cute, ( possibly the lids didn't fully form or open, I know a little girl this happened to). My inappropriate comment of the day....Please name him Colonel Klink, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. Cute, Cute!!
