Patrick, yea I know you guys are having a mini meet but see I was thinking if we did this you would draw people looking to buy chickens!! And maybe we would be able to unload the unwanted stuff. Plus if we require testing then it would insure that the stuff is healthy and we aren't spreading diseases. Just thought it would be really neat plus I went to the one in Maryland yes I drove over 21/2 hours to get there and I wanna go back so I was hoping to have something like that here!! Anybody know any info about testing birds?? Never have had to do it so don't know the procedure or anything!
HEY! If your buying oatmeal in bulk you should hit Dutch Valley! I know, right across the yard. You can buy serious bulk for a not so serious price. Just an idea.
Oh and thanks! I try not to be like anyone else and yeah I guess almost the whole time you were at my house I was holding a chicken or a duck. I went to Heather's house and I was loving up on hers every turn I made. lol Banty or LF americana it didn't matter I was gonna hold em lol. Heck I even grabbed her tom turkey and held him for a lil lol.
I will have to call K&K in Richland. I get my layer mash there. 100lbs for 24.50You can also get oats at the feed mill...might even be cheaper. Something tells me I'm making a run to dutch valley in the fairly near future!
Okay. Just learned an awful lot of things in a phone convo. I am gonna email the gal in charge of the NPIP program and see what we have to do so that hopefully by the time we plan to have a big swap in the spring everyone is clean and safe as well as we can all have a bit more peace of mind in getting birds from all over the place.
I just got off the phone with the "Chicken man" for the area through Penn State extension Office. I'm gonna find out for sure what it takes for the NPIP cert.We belong to Lebanon County 4-H. There are people that live in Berks Co. that are in our club. They are certified testers. You just need to find someone, so contact your local extension office. Another thing I wanted to share, we are going to be starting a chicken club for all ages! Now the adults can join too! I will let you guys know details as thing unfold. Lots of awesome chickeness happening!!! The meet idea is awesome!

Did you leave meassage for Dr. Hanshaw?Yes there is a lot of stuff to think about!! You may think everyone who has chickens in their back yard is safe but that doesn't mean they are!! I wanna do this the right way. I already contacted the ag department and I'm just waiting to hear back!! I wanna make sure we don't have sick chickens!! Wanna do it safe plus your chickens are worth more and people will be willing to pay more for chickens that are tested and healthy. I really won't bring anything home that I don't know has been tested all my chickens are pets and I don't wanna bring anything in that would kill or make mine sick! So that's y i have been asking for input and such
