I have one separated blue cochin that I thought was thin because she was picked on, she has been eating well in the garage but had runs, but she seems better now, but I was watching her today and she was opening and closing her mouth like she was crowing and thothing was coming out... weird?? she kept doing it, gonna run down and check her again.... she doesnt sneeze cough or sound congested, I see no worms in poop or in her throat... I will see if the ag close by has this sulmet, do u add to water? thanks!
try sulmet its 8.00 for 16 oz and works real good areyour chickens already laying if so make sure noto use there eggs for about 2 weeks i hope that helps

Quote: no squatting, or talking, heck mr Roo doesnt even crow anymore... the only thing I get is looks like where is my treat, and low baaaaaa baaaaaaa like give me give me.... which I myself have mastered LOL shhhh dont tell!

When she is doing the opening and closing, is there a gurgling sound at all. Is she coughing, sneezing, gasping...

Have you checked by her vent at all to see if there are mites that would cause her to be thin?

Have you given her any VetRx to ease the symptoms? What is she being fed currently? How old is she?

yes u do add water but all the directions r on it, i got it at tractor supply i think. she could have a stuffed up nose and that would lead her to gasp for air.

the button quail eggs under my hen dissapeared
four were smashed by another hen two were early quiters
the four left dissappeared except one wich i hatched in a
one gallon fish tank with a desk lamp but had an oversized head
and neck. Im just not good at hatching quail
im thinking that one of the larger hens ate the eggs while roxy was off the nest
shes so confused and looking for her babies i feel so bad
shes been sitting for 6 weeks first on chicken eggs
but the chicks were from first time layers and didn't
make it then the quails and i have no day old chicks to give her

Hope everyone enjoyed the weather this weekend... Hope you don't mind but just needed to share my photo shoot...

What all is involved with showmanship? Are your children part of 4H to participate in it?

Just did a little google research......

and, sure enough, Marans eggs are supposedly " SALMONELLA FREE " !!!

Article say it's because the pores in the eggshell are much smaller than other eggs and the internal membrane is much thicker than other breed's eggs...

Also goes on to say that Marans chicks have a more difficult time hatching because of these 2 factors.

Looks like it may always be alot of work hatching these guys and gals !

Time to check on the last 2,, their progress has also been very slow,,, probably time to lend a helping hand.

Thanks for mentioning the salmonella free,,, learned another positive about my birds today........ Cool !
