This weekend's swap is gonna be a HUM-DINGER!! There is a POULTRY SHOW on each day, Sat. & Sun, 7 - noon. I believe Saturday admission is free, if you can't make it on Sunday, or if you just want to come check out the show and meet chicken people (and rabbit people, and duck people, goose, guinea, etc.), eat something tasty at the concession stand and check out the Chinese Auction table (tickets are drawn Sunday, though and you have to be there to pick your prize), then stop on by.
I have it on good authority that the pulled pork sandwich will be for sale, as well as the return of the Spring Show's wildly successful "Loser" Soup.
Sunday is the swap - (there are pics of the 8/21 swap on our BYC page), and yes, the good stuff gets picked over early. But it all depends on what you're looking for, and sometimes when folks don't have what you want you can make a contact to find it. By 10:30, the pickings get pretty slim, I'll admit. The photos on our BYC page were taken at 8.30. Barring inclement weather (like the kind we had at our Spring Show) the swaps on show days are usually bigger than the other ones. When it's very rainy and cold, most people fold up their tables and tailgates, and either head home or migrate to the poultry barn for coffee or cocoa.
Sunday is also the show - A whole barn full of rabbits and poultry of all kinds. Sunday will be the second day of showing. The animals will be groomed to the nines, most of their owners on hand, and there will be cages of show birds for sale (not sure of the breeds yet).
Sunday is also the Chinese Auction - We have the occasional goody basket of household stuff, poultry books, poultry X-mas ornaments and jewelry, but many more of our auction items were donations from supply companies this year: feeders, food supplements, an incubator, HATCHERY GIFT CERTIFICATES, egg wash, etc. We also have stuff just for the kids on the table, too - puzzles, games, plastic jack-o-lanterns filled with candy & toys, etc. Some photos of this year's auction items (some of them) are on our facebook page.
Sunday is also Big Chicken! On Sunday, our furry mascot, Big Chicken (guess who?
) will be strolling about with a big basket of candy, giving out hugs, high-5's, and posing for photos. If you come on Sunday, flag me down for a chat, a free hug, photo or candy & let me know you're a BYC'er!!
