People and illnesses from Chickens

that is the first thing I thought of if the rash is painful and only on one side. You see it travels and inflames nerves and usually a whole cluster, for instance I had it on my right belly and hip. If it is already showing there is not much they can do but will probably give you the same meds that they use on herpies. Oh what fun that is to pick up at the drug store!

HOW OLD ARE YOU? THIS USUALLY ONLY HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE OLDER OR RUN DOWN, i WAS THE LATER SINCE i GOT IT AT 25. gOOD LUCK! opps caps sorry

So far not gotten ill, but I tell my mother to let the dr. know that "I live with chicks occasionally and a pheasant" should I ever get a mystery illness!

OK. I'm voting for mites as the cause of the itchy rash (dealing with this right now with my daughter.) Not sure about the other symptoms though. The flu is going around here though.

You know, I hate to say this but I'm going through the same thing. I'm itching as heck, broken out all over but I don't think its the chickens.

I bought my son a puppy and brought it to NY and after we got home he told me that the puppy was losing fur. He took it to the vet and they said the pup had sarcopic mange. And its contagious to humans.

I'm headed to my doctors tomorrow because I have the flu symptoms and this itchy rash that is driving me nuts!! Good luck!

I have never gotten sick from my chickens and I actually hug and kiss them. I know. I can't help it. My buttercups are too sweet!
Chickens do produce a lot of dust in the house. I could see how a person with allergies could get sick.

awww I feel for you! I havent had to go through that, but have dealt with animals with mange and its very much a pain and makes you worry and stress like crazy. I dont have any animals with mange though, Ive gotten lucky enough (

) so far that none of my own animals have ever contracted it. I hope everything goes well and keep me posted!

and everyone (even other chicken owners) think im digusting and crazy....but i love them too much and if theyre being super sweet to me and i cant hug and cuddle them tell them how much i love them, then thats kinda mean dont ya think? maybe not, but i still feel bad. if i couldnt do that i dont know if id want them anyways.

oh and i dont have allergies of any kind that i know of

I don't think this is your issue, but I thought I'd share FYI that I already have poison ivy this spring even though I haven't been out weeding around the trees or walking through the woods yet this year.

I finally decided that it came from a bag of wood chips a friend gave me. He shaved down some logs he cut from his own woods. I think the poison ivy oils were in there, because the rash I have on my neck popped out when I brought that bag into the garage to start using with my new chicks. When I didn't at first recognize it as poison ivy, my mother said that I was allergic to the chicks and shouldn't be cuddling them up under my chin.

hmmm.....i dont think thats it....this is on my stomach too, and i havent been walking around in a bathing suit lol....

i went to my drs today and he first thought not shingles then said ya...then no...then probably....then i dont know and then finally decided that he thought it was a fungal thing....he put me on meds for that and hes now sure thats what it is and that itll clear up and if it doesnt then well revisit shingles i guess. i also forgot to mention (cause i didnt think much of it) i have 4 or 5 circles on my side. theyre very faint and almost look like a tan line and are 2 or so inches across.....thats what made him think fungal. he said that he thinks the area of my rash is to big of an area to be shingles. also he thinks id have them on my back and be in more pain. the flu like symptoms and the fact that they were only on half my stomach and stopped exactly in the middle is what was throwing him for a loop tho. but he decided he thinks that its a fungal infection and the flu symptoms are actually the flu and theyre not related, just a coincidence. so we shall see!
