So I took a walk this afternoon. We live on a dead end road off a county highway. About half a mile in either direction from where our road intersects the highway there is another road that makes a big 2 mile loop- this makes for a perfect three mile walk round trip, except for the mile that I HAVE to be walking on the highway. Mostly people are awesome and when they see a walker they move over as much as possible or even into the other lane if there is no on coming traffic. Well today as I was finishing the last half mile on the highway a big dark truck was driving towards me and not looking like they were going to move over any so to be safe I moved over onto the gravel shoulder. Well the truck kept moving further and further over TOWARDS me! I practically had to dive into the ditch to avoid being hit! It passed over the white line and must have even hit the gravel a bit because I was sprayed by a shower of rocks and some even got into my eye! Now maybe they were distracted driving which really stinks in itself, but it almost felt intentional- like they were trying to “scare” me away from walking on the highway, just by the way that every time I moved over even more the truck moved over as well. So my conclusion is that some people are real jerks!! I wish I would have caught their license plate number and reported them but I was a little busy trying to to get hit!! I think I’m going to go back to walking at night which DH hates because he thinks it’s more dangerous, but at least there is a lot less traffic.
