People can be so mean :-(

Sorry I didn't mean for this to be a dig on mother in laws. I was just sad about what she said. My 3 chicks are a wonderful addition to our family. :) I was just venting about some one who was quite rude and hurt my feelings. That's all. I still like her she just talks without thinking.

Not to change the subject but I took my 3 little ladies outside for the first time today! It was so fun!!!!! They chased every bug and were jumping on me. I loved it!!!

McGobs listen to the animal control officer but, do it right, go out and buy a long crower roo. I believe Farmerboy (Daron) on BYC has some.

ooh..never even thought about that. A long crower would be AWESOME! I think I may look into those.

My fiance and I haven't even told his mother that we plan on getting chickens or goats. We bought our own house for now across town but she has offered us her own mother's house when the "time comes".

And her mother lives right next door.

I'm not sure how accepting his mom is going to be of our chickens (and possibly goats) when the time comes to move. Or if I could even stand living next door to my MIL. She's sweet, but incredibly neurotic and paranoid about everything.

You said you bought the grandma's house, then it is rightfully YOURS as you see fit. No one else should tell you what you can have and not have.

If you get a chance, go to youtube and do a search for "neverending crow." THAT'S the kind of roo you want to get LOL

Edit...the clip is called "the-never-ending-rooster-call." Sorry I don't know how to post the link here

I bet once she calms down and see's how cool they are (new babies) and watches them grow up and she tries fresh eggs for the first time, she will turn around. Let her son deal with her and dont feel bad. Maybe she is just a little jealouse you got the house and she didnt?

not to hijack, but I have the BEST MIL. She is 1400 miles away.......

x2

People can have such misconceptions about chickens. Her son can educate her a bit by sharing information like, "Chickens can help cut down on pesky bugs around the yard." OR "As long as the feed is kept in rodent proof containers, the chickens wont attract vermin."

HAVE FUN WITH YOUR CHICKS!

Im not going to bash mother in laws but i am really sorry that happened. People need to let other people live life the way they want to & not try & control everything. She is just prob unhappy about something in her life & is taking it out on you guys. Wish you the best & enjoy your hens :)

Thanks for all the advice and funny stories. I don't think she will completely come around... Its been 2 years and she still hates that I painted the kitchen sage green lol.. I love the way we live and our organic lifestyle is only growing by the day. ::) all I can do is kill her with kindness like my mom taught me to... I will attract more bees with honey then I will with vinegar ;)
