suburbanminifarm, your funny. The first couple days around here with three brooders in the living room was crazy. But I have my routine down now so things are much better. I get up between 5:30 and 6am to start feeding and watering everyone, clean brooders, ducks have to be supervised in the tub.... Then I get the kids off to school. walk the dogs with my best friend for about an hour. Clean house. Then brooders again. I do the brooders and make sure water is changed and food is topped off about 4 times a day. Its a good thing I don't have a job. I am pretty busy.

I love your serama chick. She is to cute. You are so great for rescuing those chickens. I don't know if I'd be able to do something like that. They would have to stay in the garage I suppose. You must have a very cool set up with different coops? Post pics please.

With all of these chickens I was worried I wasent spending enough time with everyone so last night I made a baby sling out of an old towel. Now I can hold the silkies hands free. I can still do laundry, make beds etc. and they are all safe and cozy. I think its going to work good

Your day sounds frighteningly like mine. Minus the kangarooing silkies around while making beds part. I just wear a chick in my bra like a normal person. (actually I'm kidding, I admire your ingenuity)

hnbubz, yes the chickie is a pretty color; does anyone know what that color will be when she grows up?
Those rescues are on the "for sale" thread now. No I don't even have coops. I sectioned off a large part of a side yard for them with chicken wire--they are just thrilled to be eating weeds and clover!

The chicks are 13 days old. Flying all over the brooder. They look more like sparrows than anything else now. The cochins are with my big girls. Everyone is getting along really well. I love seeing everyone interact during the day and they are all mixed up on the roosts at night. The silkies have been slowly introduced to the flock. yesterday we let them out of their safe run to hang out with the 16 big girls. Everything went really well. The ducklings Wilma and Betty are growing like weeds. Wilma quaked for the first time two days ago. I hope that means shes a girl. I have been letting them have short swims about 4 times a day. The tub inside and a sled outside. They outgrew the sled so we got then a kid pool. We put temporary steps to get in and out of it just in case a chickem falls in. So yesterday things were going so well with the silkies I introduced the ducks too. None of the chickens even cared about them. I think all these additions are going to go well.

Gabby is hanging out with the flock now everyday. She still wont lay her egg with them and is waiting by the gate every night to come inside while the rest of them go on to the coop. She hates the ducks and the silkies in her house but seems to tolerate everyone outside pretty good. I still don't really see her ever going back to live with the chickens.

How is everyone doing? Post people, post

We have been working in the yard lately so Lulu helps out. When I remove the old leaves from the flower beds, she is right there to get the bugs and worms. She can't scratch as well as the other chickens because of her lameness so she gets us to do it for her. She sure has her people trained well doesn't she?

I got a pic of her helping my DH filling in a trench when he was redoing some sprinkler lines. Too bad I didn't have the camera will me when my DS was digging holes to plant grapes. Lulu stood on the edge of the hole waiting to pull out the worms talking the whole time. I think she is foreman material!

She still takes her break to come in to lay her egg in the kitchen then heads right back out. The only time she wants in the pen with the other girls is when you gather eggs so she can eat some of their pellets and then leaves when you do because the girls beat on her. Sometimes, she has tried to peek back but then it set upon by two or three at once. She is much happier patrolling the yard on her own getting her people to find her bugs.

She is great fun and I love talking with her when we work (my DH says she answers me and sometimes it does seem like we are having a conversation yakking back and forth)

jojo54, cute stories. its so funny how all of our special chickens have us trained. And people call chickens stupid. I think not.
Is LuLu a buff orphington. She is so pretty. I have 5 and they are still my favorites of the flock.

She is a Bovan Brown and we were told that they are gold sex-links. We have 29 girls including Lulu but she is special. She doesn't have much meat on her breast and is funny shaped compared to the others but she is a trooper. I was surprised when she started to lay because I thought she wasn't strong enough. She lays about 5 eggs a week and they are all a good size. I am so proud of her. I would have loved her just as much even if she was eggless. She's my sweetie.

Its been awhile since any of us have posted here.

My update is one of the white cochins that i got was picked on by the flock so now she is in the house too. At least her and Gabby are getting along. The ducks are 6 weeks tomorrow. They and the silkies are bunking together in the garage and then are out with the other chickens during the day. Everyone leaves the ducks alone, and luckily there has been no problems with the silkies. Except one. We have 8 silkies and it seems as though 7 are roosters. Oh Goody. The babies in the brooder in the house are 5 weeks. They are are doing very well. Starting to get smelly. I cant wait for some nice afternoons so I can get them outside. Hubby is really sick with a cold. Fevers and everything. So the addition to the coop hasent even been started. We have 3 weeks to get these girls out of the house. I cant even imagine waiting that long. They are getting so big for the brooder. We might have to set up another temp enclosure in the garage for them.

So how has everyone been. hnbubz hows that inside baby? still inside?
