people with house chickens

THEY'RE HERE! They came sometime this morning with no problems whatsoever. Dont have names yet but nicknamed them Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry until I can think of a permanent name. Here they are (theres three with one egg left to hatch,,maybe)

Sissy meets the babies- She loves to help with the babies.
The one on the right is the biological mother to all three...
This is Daddy

This is Broody Mom #1

This is Broody Mom #2 and yes they are both brooding all the chicks together. So far no problems. Still have another broody setting about four more eggs not due till about a week from now. But just wanted to get the pics up.
BTW Phantom, your Fritz is amazing (my dog growing up was named Fritz Von Schnopps) Alexis is super talented and you are so lucky to have her...I'm such a tomboy I cant even sew a button on my clothes.Im such an embarrassment to my mom probably, no not really. Anywho, I took the babies and dipped their beaks already in the wter as I wasn't sure if mommas or I was supposed to teach them , but wanted to be sure they got some water. They appear health\y and fuzzy and I love them already... Will keep posted Take care everyone..

Thanks y'all

It's a sickness I tell you! There is no cure! Now you be wanting ducks and geese! And apparently it's contagious, because several people at work are now wanting chickens! I think we're having an epidemic, and it started with me! MWAHAHA! :D

@Tacampbell: Congrats on the new babies!!!! Love your chickens and your pup too :)

My kitten Shadow is the new chick guardian and she loves on them when I get them out... the 4 that are 2+weeks old are flying up to the edge of their container brooder and poop over the side. This pic doesn't catch the disgust on Shadow's face when she caught Dottie pooping, but it was so hysterical!!

Today I picked up my silver laced wyandotte chick...named her Lacey. She almost caused a brawl in the other brooder when I was getting hers ready...loves being handled already and isnt taking crap off anybody already lol
Pics to follow

Welcome home to little Lacey. That's hysterical about the kitty cat being indignant about chicky poop. She better get used to it...I think I read somewheres that chickens poo every 15 minutes on average - useless fact, but alarming.
I sexed the babies yesterday and have two girls and a boy....leaning towards Ebony and Popcorn for the black and yellow girls, The little strawberry roan colored is a boy and I'm stuck for a name. Might be Rusty not only for his color but his dad is Early and if anybody watches Squidbillies Earlys son is named Rusty.
ON another note we are moving on ahead with the next set. The second batch has started to hatch. Awesome that rhymed. The firstborn chicky is also black. This set will be Gold Laced Cochin on both parents. This is so exciting I could crap. Its like christmas having all these babies around. My Pitbull Sissy McGuiss is in heaven. She loves baby chicks. I still am too afraid to let her be around them while they are playing on the floor as she is kinda clumsy and get over excited. She took a paw and smashed one of my guinea keets (didn't hurt it thnkfully) as shewas trying to help catch it. I can see how this could get addicting and get completely out of control really fast. Wow if chickens only take three weeks to brood and hatch, imagine how overrun an overzealous chicken breeder could get real fast and quickly go from a pet owner to a chicken hoarder. Well I better go see if anymore babies showed up in the night. BTW I candled the fourth egg in the first group and it was clear, not a speck of an embryo and certainly not one due to hatch in a day, so three out of four for group one.

Hey all you chicken people! I haven't been on in a long time, but in that time my Ebony has regrown her feathers! She is prettier, softer and fluffier than ever. I will get a picture soon so you can enjoy the sight as much as I do.

Well I am new to chickens in general, but so far my ladies are house chickens! It is freezing cold winter in Michigan still, and although they were bought with the intentions of being out in a coop, they are turning into lap pets; or shoulder, or head, depending on which pullet we are talking about. I have three, a SLW named Dixie, a Welsummer named Roxanne, and an ISA brown named Sugar. They have a little "coop" in the house, but get to "free range" whenever someone lets them out with the intentions of being on poop duty lol. Usually about three or so times a day at about an hour or so each time. I never thought that chickens would have such differing and fun personalities!
