mainly in my room, and he will be allowed to go in my backyard (we are fixing it up nicely this spring) whenever it wants too. it wont be allowed to sleep outside ever because i would feel safer with him inside.

i plan on taking TONS of pics and videos!

im only keeping one, i might get another after i get him/her settled in.

ill try a diaper, and if that doesn't work than i will go with the cloth and vinegar

Do you know what the breed is yet? Yes a friend might be nice later. my Gabby has a RIR named Molly that likes to come and hang out for a few hours every day. You should do your BYC page. You could start it with the egg. Aaaahhhh how Sweetie

Thank you. Gabby is an Ameracuna. She is about 7lbs I think. Shes not as heafty as my buff orphingtons. But probably heavier than the Rhode Island Reds. How exciting not to know. Like Christmas. Keep us posted on the progress. I have never hatched eggs before, but there are so many wonderful folks here who have. If you have any questions everyone wants to help. Good luck

Can you post a pic of the egg next to a white ruler? I wouldn't be surprised if some people would have guesses based on color and size.

Thanks

i know

Hi folks,
I'm thinking Gabby may be getting broody. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm thinking about letting her have some fertilized eggs and seeing what happens. Any advice would be great
Thanks

Is she sitting in one place most of the day? That's what happens when the go broody.

If so, you can make a little nest there and put some eggs under her, probably about
6 would be enough.

She is way too cute!

I had an EE that was in the house too! I had her outside but she got torn up, I took her in fixed her up and she got her feathers back, I put her back out and she got it again! She she stayed in the house with me for about a year. She even barked at times! lol She slept on the couch with my son, when he fell asleep there. Then I got a puppy, and I had to put little bear outside, I was scared my puppy was going to eat her, or she would peck and eye out on the dog. Now she loves it outside she sticks her little nose up at me. lol But I soo miss having her in the house! Maybe one of my new babies can stay with me, unless my dog eats it! She is a Great Pry mix, so I am so surprised she wants to eat them. But then again I have no idea what she is mixed with! lol

I think it is great you guys have a pet chicken in the house!

Oh, and she is doing good, no one to pick on her any more! It was my RIR's that were going after her, so they are history!!!!!

Love the egg in the dog dish! Looked like a good place to her. What else could it have been meant for?

My Speckles was mainly an outdoor chicken, but she spent lots of time with me inside for visits. I had "chicken towels" that I would cuddle her up in when I first picked her up, just in case she had been scratching in some mud or something. She would stay inside for an hour or more at a time and never once pooped until I took her outside. She slept inside on especially cold or wet nights, even though she had a very nice coop. I had a dog carrier and she would settle down in there for the night in the laundry room. The carrier was her "treat box" and I would let her hop inside when we came into the house and give her special munchies while she was in there. The worst mess she ever made in the house was my fault because I brought her inside without realizing she had been in the midst of a nice dirt bath. Whenever she would hear the back door open she would run to the door of her pen and wait for me to come bring a treat or pick her up for an inside visit. I picked her up, brought her inside and let her look at herself in the bathroom mirror. After admiring herself she decided to flap her wings and end her dirt bath while she was standing on the bathroom counter. It took a LONG time to clean up the dirt in there. But she was worth it.

We got a barred rock with a broken leg over a month ago. Now she really wants to be a house chicken. And since she loves my hubby, he's actually considered it, but we have a dog ......... but just that he considered it is a big deal, LOL. I will be getting a few diapers soon just in case some girlie outside wants to come in and visit.
