people with house chickens

Pics
Sunni will probably like to come and go. She will probably let you know what she wants.

Frack, our "house chicken" comes and goes as she pleases. She will peck on the front door when she wants to come in and stand at the front door cackling when she wants to go back out. She will come in and lay her egg in her nest, then hang around a while, but then want to go back out. If the roosters irritate her too much, she will come back in for a while. Sometimes she comes in overnight, usually when it's raining out, and sometimes she will sleep with the rest of the flock. Of course, at breakfast and dinnertime, she's always at the door. She begs worse than a dog!

Blackie is the only other hen that comes inside to lay her eggs. She only visits for a little while and then goes back outside.

I loved reading through this thread! No house chickens at the moment, but they do come in for visits on occasions. Here is Daffy inside enjoying sleeping on the bed, getting cuddles, and playing in the "water" (a.k.a wood floor...)

That is too fun! I've always wanted to have pond, maybe someday when I don't live in West Texas. ; )

Does anyone have a pattern for a duck diaper?? I am thinking about making a "couple". ; )

Thanks for the pattern sweety.

Ducks are not a whole lot different. But they may be shaped a wee bit differently.

We will try out your pattern and see if it works on Daffy.

I used to have a Silkie inside, got him a diaper and as soon as I put it on him he through a hissy fit and managed to get out of it.

So stinkin' cute!!!! What kind of duck is Daffy??

I make my own chicken and goose diapers (haven't pick a duck breed I LOVE yet) and IMHO the biggest difference is how much more wet goose poop is than chicken poop. I would guess duck poop is more like goose poop?
My original goose diapers, made from my chicken design, leaked really bad, it was seriously gross! So I bought a goose diaper on Etsy, and after deciding that I absolutely loved the way it fit Trina, I made my own simpler versions out of straight PUL with FOE around the edges to keep it tight to her. The fabric on the diaper I ordered took FOREVER to dry, and as a goose, Trina is always making a water mess so it needed to be faster drying or less likely to be wet at all.

These are my design - I found that the seam along the bottom (2nd picture) would leak if left overnight, so I changed the pocket so there was no seam at all (first pic) and now it lasts all night!

This is the one I ordered on Etsy - made from swimsuit like material with a PUL lining between the swimsuit material - the bellyside adjustable straps wouldn't stay tight so I eliminated them on my design, only put an adjuster on the top, and now that she is full size I eliminated that adjuster too, made it overly complicated

If you still need a diaper pattern PM me, I can send you what I've got, it's super simplified and is a total snap to make! I absolutely love it.

I have a 5 week old chicken that lives inside with me. I don't know if it's a he or a she but for the sake of this ill call it a she. She has naps in my bed. She knows not to go on the covers, so she sleeps on her own special blanket but if I sleep in she will sneak over and stand on my head until I wake up. She follows me around the house while I do my house work. We will sit on the lounge together and she will get a little piece of my food. Her best mate passed away a few days ago so she has been following me around a lot more then usual. We go for walks outside in the sunshine and we sit down and play in the dirt. She is like a 2 year old child that won't leave you alone and is constantly under your feet. I love her to bits though. She is such a character. I don't see the problem of chickens being inside as long as they don't poop everywhere and make a huge mess, because that's when there are health issues. But if cats and dogs can live inside then why can't chickens. Some people may think you're mad but who cares. They don't know the love and happiness you get from your chickens. They're like your kids, your family and your true friend. :p :weee :love

Hopefully this thread hasn't died completely. I need some help from some house chicken owners. Where is the best place to get chicken diapers? I need two for my Buff Orpington who is going to come into the house. I would really like some good quality diapers that are comfortable for her and get the job done.

Also, one concern I have is what do you do to keep your house chickens entertained?

Does anyone know if lovemychix still makes diapers? She hasn't been on BYC in a while, but her website is still up. She has good reviews, so I'm hoping she still makes them!
