people with house chickens

Hm! They looks like nice quality at least! Doesn't seem like your experience is a common one, I'd hope not anyways! Glad you are happy with your diaper though (aside from the fit) and I'll have to keep her in mind for future times. (I've got a whole list of them! lol!)

Has anyone ever heard of chicken boots or shoes? In thinking about trying to make some for when it gets snowy.

This lady on etsy makes neoprene shoes -

And I've seen kids sandals repurposed into goose and chicken sandals, that might be a way for you to get the harder gripping bottom that's waterproof if you can find some kid sandals at a thrift shop =)

My mom and I sat down with some pins and adjusted Sunni's diaper, then my mom used her sewing machine to shorten the belly part of the diaper and the elastic strips. Her diaper was WAY too big. Which I really don't understand. I measured her from her breast, under her belly, and to the vent, and she measured 12 inches. So I ordered a 12 inch diaper. I don't know why it is so big. Now that it is shorter and more snug, she is walking tons better. She still wants to high step and hook her toes, but not nearly as bad. My mom said that if this doesn't work she will deconstruct these diapers and use the elastic and clips and make some new ones. Im really disappointed. I was told that lovemychix's diapers were the best there is, and that her costumer service was great. Not with me. She was very short with her replies, and wasnt even willing to exchange these diapers for smaller ones. I won't be ordering from her again. I'll just have to learn how to make the diapers myself.
I'm sorry this was your experience. The reason I started making my own diapers was because of a poor experience with her too.
Making them on your own is just SO much easier than dealing with custom fitting stuff long distance.
If you need any help making your own diapers feel free to shoot me a message, I'd be happy to share what all I've learned so far.

A tip for your own diapers in the future - rather than using cotton (which is what the main part of your diaper is made of) use stretchy fabric for the "under the belly" part, it fits MUCH nicer so birdie feet aren't always catching. I mostly use dancewear fabric, but for small chickens I prefer like a stretch jersey material - it doesn't dry very fast, but that isn't usually a problem for chickens (just ducks and geese) and it can take some practice to be able to sew with it. A combination of jersey and elastic, or even JUST jersey (used as the body AND in place of the elastic) makes for a closer body fit and more wiggle room as far as getting the perfect birdie measurements.

I actually made a chicken shoe. I'm really surprised with myself, considering that I tried making them last winter and failed miserably. I will get some pictures soon. :)

I've only finished one so far, so my poor little rooster only has one warm foot, haha.

It's okay, he doesn't need warmth because he sleeps inside but he'll need them for the snow this winter!

Well this little bootie took me a long time to make but that was mostly because I didn't have a design and made it up as I went. I'm guessing that the next one will take me about a half hour, as opposed to 2 hours.

The things I do for my birds. I'm still planning on putting a plastic padding on the bottom to make it waterproof.

He's drinking water in this pic.

That is so cute!!

I'm excited to start making the second one because I'm sure it will go so much faster. I'm really happy this worked out so well. My boy Checkers walked around in it for over an hour and never tried to get I off or anything. Now I can't wait for the snow!

I wish I could do something like that for my chickens, but I don't have the supplies, and about half of my hens have really crooked toes. And my chickens refuse to go out in the snow anyways. Those are so cute though!! How do you get them off?
