Hey you, sorry I didn't get back real soon, but yeah thats what I heard last week that there was icestorms, but I think they missed you. My dad got them so they hit Arkansas and a lot of the middle states, so you got lucky I think...Pretty sure they are done now though. Dad says they have four days of sunshine coming....whooptydoo. Im freezing.

OH and Hope got pooed on AGAIN. thats like twice this week...I can't bathe her every single time.

Hah! I remember when Chuck (my leghorn pullet who now chases hawks off of someone else's farm) used to find poop and roll around in it. She earned herself the nickname "Sh*t bird". Hahaha. Funny thing though.. She LOVES baths. I used to think she did it just so she could have one.

Well, looks like Momma and Snow are going to be garage chickens instead of house chickens. But as long as they're safe, that's the important thing!

From what I was told she was a little silkie/polish mix. The man had a ton of different bantams freeranging with tons of roos but it seems close enough!

that is too funny! Ebony could really use a bath sometime soon, she hasn't had one for a while.

WOO HOO!! e Finally got our power back!! We went 6 and days and 6 nights without it. Talk about chaos... I have never been so happy to be able to turn on a lamp.

Hello to my extended chicken family

Hope everyone survived the holidays. I hate to sound anti-christian or whatever but truthfully I am glad to see it over. It's just so stressful. xmas lost the meaning a long time ago I think. But enough of that.

Phantom- sounds like the snow and ice did miss you. My dad got two days of snow, but its gone now. I laughed when I read that about"chuck". I had to reread it. Chuck is a she! That's bada**. I spent this week banding and naming all my Guineas and couldn't really think of good names so I got, Bailey, Goldschlager, Guiness, Cuervo,Cognac, Martini, you get the idea....sorta a pattern there. Yeah I think Hopey and Angel my Polish Crested both like baths. Faithy tries to swim. Angel is just ditzy enough to dunk her head underwater she gets so relaxed...scared she's gonna drown

Chickenpeep, How are you and Ebony? If that's her on your avatar pic, she;'s absolutely beautiful!

Crickett: Sounds like Junior didn't make it? So sorry. It was just a crappy week for a lot of us. I know how it feels,and it sucks.

@Tacampbell1973 Those are nice names for you guineas! And that's funny how Faithy likes to dunk her head under the water. I have only ever given two chickens baths (Sunni and my old Buff Orp, Ruby) and neither of them seemed to enjoy it as much as I thought they would. They liked it, but they didn't at the same time. Any time Sunni would slide on the bottom of the tub or if I would shift her at all, she would flap her wings and send water EVERYWHERE. Little stinker...


I found out the other day that Sunni is like my little watch dog. She was standing on the arm of the couch and the UPS man walked up onto the porch. She shot her head up and let out a small growl and she didnt take her eyes off of him until he was gone. It was pretty cute.

I still have to get the pictures of Sunni in her new Hen Holster uploaded to a computer, but I'll get those posted asap.

Good Morning Chickenmama,

Thats funny about Sunni growling. My birds will growl too when they see something out of place or at strangers...I 've been trying all morning to upload pictures and keeps telling me error..never had a problem before. Thanx Phantom you jinxed me, just kidding...no really my chickens do this thing were when one starts clucking, they will all try to outyell each other. if one gets starled or something. Now the Guineas are learning how to get into it too sothey add that obnoxious guinea scream to themix...thankgod I don't have close neighbors!

I have a question. Is the smell of paint okay for chickens? I will be spending the entire day Wednesday and Thursday painting every room in the new house (we are moving in January) and I would like to be able to bring Sunni along so she doesn't have to stay in her little coop all day. Will the paint fumes hurt her? Im thinking not since people paint their coops all the time, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
