people with house chickens

I am so jealous of all you guys on here. I see everyone here is from a warmer place then me. I am freezing my chicken nuggets off....I hate washington weather. My birds even seem heartily displeased with the state of things, rain/snow or combinations thereof...how many different ways can the weatherman say possible or probable rain? Slight chance of showers, possible precipitation, chance of sun (yeah right) blah blah blah...I stuffed more straw in the outdoor run for the kids....My stupid guineas keep trying to break their warming light. I don't know how...They bust the bulb out of the socket. I covered the bulb and hood with wire so they cant come in direct contact with the bulb but they still bump into the light shade/hood thingy and knock the bulb loose. They are now in with the big kids so the light is up higher, but they still manaaged to hit it. I staple gunned some zip ties to the roof and zip tied the cord so if the light does get knocked off the hook at least it still has something holding it up so it doesn't contact the straw bedding. Poor ugly things. I got pictures. I warn everyone, they are like a train wreck, once you see them you can't unsee them, they is ugly. But i love them anyway. Here is before
and here is yesterday.....

Beleive me Im still scratching my head too trying to figure out how we got from "Awww to Whoa". They screanm bloody murder when I separate them as you can see, They look very predatorial like a hawk or eagle...Dad was named Gru like the hunchback dude from Despicable Me. So all the babies are called Gru for right now. I named mom Minion for obvious reasons. All in all they are really neat birds though. But not anywhere near soft and fluffy like my Cochins,

Oh and true to form, I got sidetracked, so now I gotta put something about house chickens....I have a dumb question about the little diapers everyone is talking about...what happens when the hens lay an egg? I don't know for surebut I think isn't Sunni not old enough to lay yet? I think all my hens are of age, I just think some choose not to right now. Which is fine, like I said, Im still having trouble eatinbg them...husband snarffs them down no problem, but i just stand there horrified...I would make a terrible homesteader...Probably be out grazing with my livestock.

I took some pictures of Madame Sunni just now. She is back to cruising around the house (with extreme supervision now). We still tube fed her this morning, but she is starting to get her aim back and managed to eat just a few pellets last night and this morning. She jumped up onto her roost at bedtime by herself, and jumped down this morning without any stumbling or dizziness. Every day I am seeing more improvements from her. She was even scratching and pecking through her shavings in her coop this morning. Today is day 4 since the incident with our dog. She has a few scuffs along the right side of her beak, and a small scratch just above her left waddle. I don't know if you can see it in the photos, but she has a bruise just behind her eye on the left side that spreads down to her ear. The bruise is from the small puncture wound that she has on the top of her head. You can't really see it unless you lift up her feathers, but the bruise is dark greenish blue and spreads over most of the top of her head. :( Earlier our dog jumped down from the couch and she growled and hissed at him, so she's definitely scared of him. I want be letting him anywhere near her, or her anywhere near him anymore. I can tell by the way our dog looks at her that he's sorry, but I don't trust him. :/ (right side) (left side) (left side. You can kind of see the bruise in this one)
She is BEAUTIFUL!!! and looks wonderful too! SO GLAD she recovered her fine self to her former beauty! :cd :love
