people with house chickens

That is so sweet. I think animals just have a way of knowing when we are sad, and they know just how to comfort you. When I thought Sunni was going to pass, one of my cats came and snuggled by me for a long time. An he's normally not a snuggler. It's no wonder we all have such a hard time not getting attached to animals. They always manage to find a soft spot in your heart. :)

Absolute truth! And who knew before they got into this, that a chicken could steal your heart? It sounds crazy to everyone who has never had one.

That it does. It sounds especially crazy to those kinds of people when I tell them that I have a chicken that lives in the house.

Uh, yup!

3 of the 4 people in my band have chickens, and even they look at me with disbelief when I tell them that my chickens live in the house. Most people think I'm joking, which only gives me valid excuse to show off my feathered children :)

Hi Everyone! I need some advice on keeping of my bantam frizzle cochin hen inside. Right now I have her in a parrot cage with a modified tray. She spends most of her day on her perch but will come down for food or to scratch around. I want to take her out to walk around but there is snow on the ground and I read that frizzle chickens do not do well in the cold. I also want to buy her a diaper harness so she can walk around the house but I'm afraid it will not work because she has a small tail and I'm afraid the poo will get all over her frizzly feathers. Can anyone give me advice?

Theresa, I swear we must be related..

I have an amazing Pit Bull also! His name is Roscoe, he just turned 9 a few months ago, and he is the best. He's been with me through: 3 jobs, 8 moves, 10 cars, 11 girlfriends, countless other pets, the near loss of his favorite kitty, and loads of discrimination. He's my best friend, my most trusted companion, and he's smarter than most people I know.

I have a question. I'm going to bring my silkie, Momma, and her remaining baby, Snow, into the house. I have a very large cage they can use as their coop /roost. Where can I get some inexpensive chicken diapers? I don't want to keep them penned all the time, and will let them outside when I am here to keep close watch. They are my last two silkies and I don't want to lose them. I'm afraid to put them with the others, I'm afraid they would get picked on. Any advice?

I know exactly what you mean....It bums me out when people talk about Pitbulls like their some kind of criminal. The only thing in danger around my dog is a package of hotdogs...she is the sweetest. Although I think I have you beat in crisis, I have two ex husbands slithering around the earth somewhere and three beautiful sons. But my dog has been the only thing that has been constant. People who talk about pitbulls like they are dirt obviously have never had one. Although I still think in the wrong hands, they like any other animal can be trained to be dangerous, but thier only flaw is that they will do anything to please their people and sadly those people set them out to do bad things. My Sis sleeps next to me, goes everywhere with me, gets her own plate of dinner with me, and orders take out at Mcdonalds or wherever we are, she gets something. She has the biggest ears I've ever seen, and she reminds me of Donkey from Shrek. Goofy an loveable. I guess I better put something about house chickens in here before someone gets mad.....I shared a bowl of cereal with my white cochin (Faith) the other day.She loves Lucky Charms. Oh and Top Ramen. I actually picked up one of my Guineas last night. I haven't held them since they were babies unless i had to move one because they hate being held and it scares them. I haven't wotrked with them as much as the chickens. They walk up to me, but only stay closeif I have food. God they are so invcredibly ugly. I kissed the top of her little bald scraggly head. I do love them even if they only tolerate me. I have got to get some pics of them before they lose the adolescent akward stage. They try to fight by pecking at each other and all you see is necks and long legs like two baby emus. Here is a pic of my Sis at last Christmas after just opening her xmas bone. She is so entranced with her new bone that she looks ripped...
OH and as far as us being related, I would be honored to have such a cool bro

I'm off to go cut firewood in the rain..booooo.

She is so pretty!

And yeah, you're so scarily like me with yours. Roscoe gets his own McDonald's/Taco Bell/wherever, he has awesome birthdays and Christmases, and he has been the only constant in my life since I got him.

They are the best dogs in the world, and you're exactly right about them being so eager to please. It's that plus their incredible strength that can be a dangerous combination in the wrong hands. Stupidity and ignorance are the two most dangerous things in the world. Luckily, I possess neither of those qualities, so mine is a big, sweet baby. He loves the chickens, his kitty, other dogs, and pretty much anything else he meets (except squirrels. He hates squirrels).

Oh, and yes! Get some pictures of your bald babies! I wanna see 'em, and you'll be glad you caught the awkward stage!

Here's some pictures of Roscoe on his birthday :)

Get her a diaper. You will really feel better about her having freedom and exercise.
