people with house chickens

I have a house chicken. My girl is a Mille Fleur that my boyfriend brought back inside when she wasn't doing well in the pen with the other Milles. She sits on my shoulder while I'm on the computer, roosts on the back of my computer chair and only wears a diaper when we have company or when we're going to the feed store. She doesn't seem to mind the diaper at all, but I think I'm going to make her one with straps just a tad longer. She and my cat are buddies. They sleep together on the couch and chase each other around the house. She spends just as much time chasing the cat as the cat spends chasing her. She just started laying and she found the perfect place to start, a bag of shavings we use for chick bedding (yes, those are in the house too) in the corner of the living room.

I've had everything else in the house, why not a chicken?

Beautiful bird! I've got 5 of them less than 6 feet away from me at this very moment! 4 Roos, 1 pullet. Haha. She sure has a prominent comb for a girl! If she wasn't sitting there with an egg, I'd probably be writing something like "Looks like a boy to me.." I'm gonna keep one roo, and the pullet. They get along wonderfully with my modern game bantam and Sebright roo. The other Mille Roos are becoming a bit of a handful...

This is her fella. She went on a conjugal visit after she gifted us with her first egg. She's on the back of my chair right now. Probably wants me to go to bed so she can go to sleep!

I have four more hens besides her. I really do need to come up with a name for her.

Do any of you ever have to file your chickens beak and toenails?? I have to file Sunni's beak twice a month and her toenails every 2 months. If I don't file her beak regularly it grows really fast and she breaks pieces off of it. :th

Im not sure if all chickens beaks and toenails grow that fast, or if it is just Sunni. My outdoor girls are always picking around at rocks and cement, so their beaks, so I have no idea how fast theirs grow.

I've had Finn for almost 6 months now and I've never had to file his beak. We use dog toenail clippers to trim his feet, which I guess we do about every month.

Normally if I stay on top of it I can just file her toenails, but yesterday I had to use some dog nail clippers since I didn't get around to filing her toenails while we were moving.

Speaking of moving, Sunni doesn't even seem the slightest bit phased by the new house. She loves it. I was thinking the change of scenery would screw her up, but she hasn't even seemed to notice. She just follows me around everywhere and doesn't take much notice to her surroundings. Unless of course she sees a little piece of paper or a shaving on the floor. I swear Sunni will eat just about anything.
