people with house chickens

I need advice quickly. My indoor hen has just started to lay. Someone told me she needs special UV lighting so she can get vitamin D to absorb calcium. I'm hoping this is not true because the lightbulbs cost $20 each and cannot be bought locally. My other thought is to put her outside to get some sunlight a few days a week but it is so cold out still that I worry about her getting sick from going to one extreme to the other. Any advice is appreciated.

you can do the light, but you don't need it unless thye lay soft shell eggs. my frien uses one because her hen lays soft shell from time to time. she has it attached to her feeder box wich is a box with no top they go into and can throw their feed everywere lol.. also make sure you supplement greens!!!!! I ma he mistake not to and my Muffy became enimic :(

Hi guys i have chickens that are living in the basement bc it's too cold outside right now. I don't have the heart to even put them outside in the summer bc I'm so used to them being inside with me. I'd have to build them their own home.
