people with house chickens

Pics
Romeo is looking good Terri. I can't wait until it gets warmer so you can get some pics of him outside. I'm glad he got a home where he can still be a house chicken!

As I was packing up the eggs, I totally said to myself "That egg is definitely the cutest, Amber's going to hatch an awesome bird out of it" and next thing I know...POOF! Romeo

Good morning Everyone

Love all the stories, and the pics. Keep them coming

I found another thread recently, they talk a little bit about the odd folks with indoor chickens. Of corse the thread was started by someone who believes chickens are strickly livestock to be used and then eaten. Some of these people actually try to convince themselves that a chicken dosent relieze that something bad is about to happen when you have it pinned to a log holding an axe over it. Some people really should take the time to pay attention to the things around them.

People might think we are the minority, and even a little strange. But I'd rather be on this side of the fence any day.

Even if I was the only person out there with an indoor chicken and was classified crazy for doing it, I still would because for Gabby, it was the only alternative other than killing her. Which in my book was not an option. But I have to say I am happy and grateful to all of you, who are here sharing your stories with us. Not only because I have proof that I am not the only one doing this, but because its nice to see true generous kindness.

The love that we have for our indoor chickens is different than people have for outdoor chickens. Even people who adore their girls and would never eat them, just can't understand fully. The companionship, the individual personalities, the funny things they do. Even their favorite foods. It is all amplified when you share your home with them. Gabby makes me appreciate the outdoor girls even more. My life would not be the same without her here. Cleaning up the poo is so worth what I get in return.

I am so glad you all see that too.

Have a great day, and thanks for reading

Susanne

Good morning everyone.

I found out yesterday afternoon that the chicks that I ordered will be in Tuesday morning. They werent suppossed to be in untill the 16th. I am soooo excited. And so not ready. I have to buy my new brooders. I'm going with 50 gallon clear totes. I'm going to drill holes around the bottom to make sure there is enough air flow. and modify the lids too. Frames with hardware cloth. Then I want to figure out something better to attach the heat lamp to. Last yaer the cats bumped it too easily.

I just wonder how Gabby is going to react. My husband wants to see if the flock will accept Gabby when the babies are introduced. I hope they don't, I will miss her. But don't tell him I said that. LOL

She is sitting here next to me. She agrees, and doesnt want to go outside either. The treats are way better in here. So are the temps. Oh and of course sleeping on the couch isent bad either.LOL

Aren't you SUPPOSED to keep at least one chicken in the house?

Isn't that in the rulebook?

Honestly, we we all go out for excercise, it's the dog on a leash...the chicken minds.

Growing up, my brothers and I had a pet bull. Lived on the back porch, ate marshmallows,
drank pepsi from a bottle. Loved to romp in the yard with us. Dad moved it to my uncles
farm after we grew up and left home. Had the bull and a basset hound...what a pair they
were. I could ride a bull before I could ride a horse.

Uncle Harold had a crazy duck he kept in his bathroom. Lived in the tub. Thing raised cain
when someone had to go to the bathroom. Been more than one person come running out
of the bathroom, being chased by the duck. (Harold only had a one-bathroom house)

You know, I might be a county-boy.

I wax my farm tractor more than I wax my wife's car.

Spook

I bring my bantam inside several times a week! She is only allowed on the tile for obvious reasons, but she loves to be inside! She hears a plastic bag rustle in the kitchen, and she can't get there fast enough to see if you're getting her a snack.

I think I could put her in my pocket and go on vacation and she'd be perfectly content!

spook, had to read your post twice-- "pet bull" looked like "pit bull" at first!

Love your stories, sounds like you had a fun childhood--did that bull ever get cavities? You'll have to tell us more about your pets (especially chickens) and
