This is Lurky. He's more like a parrot than a chicken. He has a little shelf with a perch (He wont leave) I take him down to get sun shine & exercise. I have my friend convinced he's a Cuckoo Bird (like the ones in the clock)
Just a little update today is day 16, i go into lockdown on sunday! the eggs are growing so fast and im pretty sure i saw a beak when candling! 21 days is going by quicker than i thought. i just ordered the food and waterer, wish me luck!
indoor chickie here i come!
Well folks I am convinced Chickens are additive. So most of you on this thread know my story. 8 originial girls last Spring then two more in December. 1 in the house. Well I ordered my babies. I get to pick them up Tuesday. I ordered 2 SLW 2 GLW and 3 Australorps and 2 white Rocks. They couldnt get me the WRs so now Im getting 3 of each. Ok so I am all dissapointed because I really wanted a white bird in the flock. Premiere Silkies PMs me to say she lives in WI but is driving though "would I like to buy any white cochins from her?". They are 10 months , I think. So I said sure, 2 of them. Then she says BYC people are half the price. Before I know it I'm taking all 5 pullets. Then my son sees a partridge cochin. Its the only one. Son says oh mom they were raised together you can't leave her behind. So add a PC to the deal. Then he sees all her cutie patutie silkies. He wants one. Then the neighbor (who is also my best friend) has a 15 yr old daughter that loves them and wants one too. Ok add 2 silkies to the deal. The neighbors 11 yr old and my 13 year old says I wish I could have a silkie. Yada yada yada. I'm getting 5 silkies each a different color for each one of our kids. 3 of the girls don't know they are getting them. Autum the 15 yr old keeps googleing pics of them and cant wait to see them. She says she'll know its name the minute she sees it. Aaahhhh. I have already told her she can take the chick to her house anytime she wants. They are about 8-9 weeks. So off the light. But I'm not putting them outside untill the addition to the coop is built. I think we will make them their own section. She says they can be with the big girls but with my track record I worry. I don't want any more flock drama.
So I gotta wonder how is Gabby going to feel about 5 silkies sharing the house with her. And then tomorrow 9 babies. Some how I imagine shes going to be outside a lot more. LOL I know when Molly comes in she has no problem telling everyone who will listen "this house ain't big enough for the both of them!"
My house smells like pine bedding Eeeww. I prefer chickens to fresh pine. There are 2 brooders set up inthe living room. Once the babies are here I'll post pics. Allen modified 2 50 totes they are sooo cool. Wait till you see.
hnbubz good luck with baby egg. She is due on the 10th right? Post pics right away. I have never seen a baby right from the egg. So exciting.
I will be following your saga as it unfolds... tomorrow you'll be a mommy--how exciting!!
I wholeheartedly approve of the acquisition of silkies, though, EVERY child should have one!!
Go forth and chick-addict your whole neighborhood!!!
Actually tonight I'll be a new mommy too. I am getting the silkies and the cochins tonight. then the day old chicks Tuesday morning. Then blue cochins and light brahma chicks mid April. So the flock is going from 10 to 36 this summer.
I have 3 permanent house chickens at the moment (2 of them are special needs hens) and one is a Silkie that is just "too pretty" for my flock, lol - they hate her
Right now she has two chicks with her from her January hatch. Last week, I had to bring in another Silkie with an injured leg and I still have two Serama chicks inside. Not sure if they will be house chickens or not yet.
I love having house chickens and if more come along that need to live inside, so be it
This is Princess Wilamena... she is my house-chicken. I also have 3 silkies who much prefer being outside... but like to sleep in their cage in the sunroom at night. Yes, they have a very nice coop, but are spoiled rotten. Wilamena likes to visit outside... but waits at the door for us to let her in. She drives my hubby nuts cause she will go all the way into the bedrooms looking for me. She loves to lay on his pillow and make a nest... which doesn't go over well. She is my baby... and he will just have to get over it.
Princess Wilamina is beautiful. Is she a polish crested? I love her
Well we went to pick up the 6 cochins(8months old) and the 5 silkie babies (about 10 weeks old) and she gave us 8 silkies. The are so cute. She said this way we are sure to have some girls. I can't get rid of boys once were all attached. What am I gonna do
I love them all already. I was up like 3 times in the night to ck on them. Then I'm laying there in bed thinking about them. Then my daughter gets me out of bed at 4am because she puked. and puked. and puked. poor kid. Well all of the silkies will be in the house for at least another 8 weeks. I will need another brooder. Help me now. I'm in it deep. I go pick up the 9 new babies in a couple hours.
Oh and Gabby wanted NOTHING to do with the siklies. I had 7 kids over last night so 5 of them could pick the silkie they wanted. Gabby could not have been more un interested if she tried.
