Percent of hatching shipped eggs!

Another thing is the amount of people that ask if I must keep hatching eggs cool in the fridge to keep "fresh"

There is some irony there, outside the US/Canada, Australia and Japan most of the rest of the world doesn't refrigerate eggs, "fresh" is sitting out on the shelf next to the bread...

Hahaha so true! I spent some time in China and people there did not refrigerate their eggs there. Eggs that I purchased there were usually sitting in a crate on the floor of the shop, and people who wanted eggs would be handed a plastic bag to put the eggs into as they chose them. There was never any question as to whether they were fresh. They were always fresh, usually only 1-2 days old.

ETA: 1-2 days old as determined by the "float test". I would boil eggs sometimes and they always sank completely to the bottom of the pot.

It's only a fairly new concept here in Australia too in the last few years and in fact one of our local woolworths supermarkets still has theirs next to the bread on the shelf.

I considered keeping mine unrefrigerated. But from everything I read if the temps around them exceed 80 degrees very often it'll make them spoil faster. Since I live in Texas, and we don't air condition the whole house, it gets over 80 during the day for most of the year. So, for now they have to continue taking up space in the fridge. Some day maybe I'll get my root cellar built and they can live in there....

I've had terrible luck with shipped eggs. I got two batches this past spring/summer. First batch of 10 eggs I had 2 hatch. Second batch was 14 eggs and only 1 hatched. I'm done with shipped eggs, it's just not worth the heart-ache (and money) if you ask me. I had no other choice to get my flock started, though. Some people have had good success with shipped eggs though, so I do wish you luck with yours!

Thanks for the good luck guys!!! So The eggs are here!! 15 total asil game fowl eggs! Whether was nice and cool during shipment..fragile hatching eggs sticker on the box hoping the postal people cares..eggs are supposedly no more then 3 days old...took a total of 2 days to get here..Eggs were separately bubbled wrap with the foam nugget thingys all around them..eggs looks like they are in good condition..no cracks or scratches on them..settling pointy end downwards for the night before going in incubator! anything else I need to check??

Good luck with your hatch! I just put 12 shipped Cream Legbar eggs into my incubator today. =) I'm also going to keep them pointy-side down in an egg carton inside the incubator for the first two or three days and NOT turn them. I had some detached air cells, I think.

In my eggs go! Fingers crossed..the 4 at the bottom I think has bad air cell! We will see how this batch goes!!
