We are always picking up sticks and branches that fall from the oak trees around our place, so we used oak tree branches about 1-1/4” diameter that were destined for the burn pile.
Fastened together two triangular pieces for the ends then attached two branches horizontally across the triangular pieces for them to roost on. They loved it. Since they knew how to roost off the ground while still in the brooder, they used the roost bars in the coop the very first night they moved into the “chicken barn”.
