Permethrin spray

Pics
I tried the less concentrated on the birds, but it didn't kill the fleas, so yes, I put the 0.5% on the birds. Instant death to the fleas and in a day or two most fell off. Those that don't fall off come off easily with a fingernail.

Have before and after pictures if you're interested. :D

I thought long and hard before I did and I remembered seeing that one of the products @KikisGirls posted a picture of is 0.5% permethrin and it's labeled for use on poultry.

I use this exact thing on all of my animals, zero problems. I am not a crazy cat lady though.

We spray the entire coop every time, and I agree that resistance is a possible issue here. Hope not though.

I need to double check my permethrin concentrate bottle but if I am not mistaken there is an expiration date on it.

Today I bought a new bottle of Gordon's 10, and the liquid is paler in color than my old bottle from 2016. So, an obvious chemical change, apparently for the worse. There's no date on the bottle, and I'm calling the company Monday.
And we're using the new stuff today!

It was in my garage, which ranges from about 36F in very cold weather, to 85F in heat. So it never froze, or was in sunlight, but still not room temperature all the time. The new bottle will be in a cabinet in the house!

Do you know if they are Red Roost Mites or Northern Fowl Mites?

I seem to recall that you only sprayed the top of feathers,
rather than directly on the skin under the feathers?

We treated our birds about a month ago after reading this thread and @Folly's place 's success.

I have always used the powder in the past, with marginal results.

I was SO impressed with the spray! I used a sprayer and treated the birds at night. I sprayed them up and down, coating their top and bottom. I also sprayed the coop, roosts coop roof, run and emptied nest boxes.

It's been about a month now and I cannot find a single trace of mites!

Another update...
Today I talked to tech support at Gordon's. If stored 'properly' it should last five years. What does that mean? Not frozen, but maybe not in fluctuating temps either. Closed dating on the bottle, but mine was made in 2015. It's going to insecticide disposal, where ever that is, when I find it.
I used the new bottle tonight, so we'll see. Also, my sprayer may be clogged; I don't think that the mist is coming out as it should. Maybe another issue here, inadequate amount on each bird. We'll see...
