Persistent Silkie

I am very very happy to hear your husband is doing so well! Has your pneumonia cleared up?

Sorry about your chicken. Winter does not seem to be letting up at all! We have had enough of it!!! I have a house full of chicks that need to go OUT! I can't wait to get them in a hutch~

Hope everything continues to go well for your family.

The pneumonia is cleared up but now my lungs are weaker.

I think I may have to get an inhaler but I guess I shouldn't complain.

As for the chicks, that's why I always brood them in a coop.

LOL!!! I could probably handle them inside but not my hubby. Maybe once I get moved into my new house I can keep some in the basement.

I hope your lungs turn out ok. I would hate to be inhaler reliant. Probably a time thing though...maybe letting them heal more?

Hoping your Hubby continues to do well!

Well, my silkie is flirting with going broody again. I'm going to hold off a few days to see if she stays in the coop before giving her eggs. I hope to move her to a different coop so that she won't be in the main coop but we'll see. I think I'll give her about five eggs this time. Now that it is warmer, hopefully she'll have better luck than she did last time. Fingers crossed.

I think the warmer weather will definitely be in her favor. She worked so hard, right up to hatch day the last time just with no hatches. My son is looking forward to watching mother and babies so I really hope she has a couple of chicks out of this go 'round.

Anyway, thanks about the good words for my family. I'm doing much better and my husband has just passed his two month mark of being seizure free after the brain surgery. He has done better than even the doctors had hoped. A true blessing for sure.

Wonderful news to hear! I am very happy for you all.

Let me know how your silkie makes out! I have some growing right now...Oldest silkis were hatched in November. We just had our first egg layers start...finally. I have over a hundred chickens and only one is laying! LOL

You want to get them to start laying, go by a dozen or two eggs. The next day, you'll have a dozen eggs in the nesting box waiting for you. I'm speaking from experience.

How oh how can I get one of my 5 silkie hens to go broody?
You can't. It is something that they do on their own when their hormones tell them to. How old is your silkie? Mine started going broody at ten months old but not really good until closer to twelve. Don't worry, soon you'll have the problem of having broodies when you don't want them.
