Pest local rooster

I just got 8 chickens for eggs, have a garden and have troubled pests. I first warned the neighbors. I then called the PD/Animal control and got my rights. The answer? "Animals disappear all the time, the less answers, the better". Yep, cook him up! But out of courtesy I think a BBQ in the front yard would be best.

Oh dear, he seems to have... lost his head.

Will be interesting to see if the neighbor comes looking for him, I just wish people would keep their animals in order. Our new rooster has proved himself to me at least, he defended his chicks like a champ, even with his apparently missing spurs.

Thanks for all the recipes... uh... I mean suggestions.

Aw, what if it had been your rooster though? You would have wanted a warning...

**Edited to say: I retract my statement. Herding pigs back down the road is serious business.

We had spoken with her in the past over her numerous roosters and hens coming into the yard before we ever got chickens. Also spoken to her when we've had to herd 10 of her pigs from our yard back down the road to her house. Especially with there being a "no hog" law on the land around here.

I had wondered whether we should return the rooster to her and ask her to keep him confined, but with past experience it would of been deaf ears anyway, and then when he did get disposed of, would cause problems with her in future.

Your worried about problems with her in the future? For all you know, that rooster got eaten by a fox or a neighborhood dog. Or could of become road kill.............was that a speed bump? I still vote for the BBQ.........she cant prove anything, and if she does give you trouble, you will just have to invite her to dinner the next time one of her pigs comes walking into your yard. Those are mighty tasty over some mesquite wood...............mmmmmm smokey!!

I was worried about problems with her if we told her the rooster was being a nuisance, she didn't do anything, then he went "missing". So we figured it would be easier not to go to her this time given her track record. I think we gave the rooster a good few chances, tried water pistols, BB gun, caging him for a day then trying to release him at night, but he was right back this morning.

Better go stir some stock.

Coralietg,

We had a dog and cat problem. Neighborhood kept warning the owners. One day the dog caught the cat, bit it up but didn't kill it. Neighbor found it still alive and had to put it down. Few weeks later the dog got whacked by a car, used it's front paws to get out of the road. My neighbor waited an hour for me to come home and asked me to put it out of it's misery!

I have a garden, though a small one. I also have FM/CFS PTSD, COPD, (Probally XYZ's and ABC's to), etc. If it wasn't for my Garden Mule (Fiance), half of the stuff would have got planted late. I am in a warm climate (Oklahoma) and I start prepping in January. I have warned everyone on a couple occasions that because of my health I can not afford to have THERE pets ruin my stuff.

In this day and age I doubt anyone can afford to have problem animals ruining there stuff and hard-work. Quit guilt tripping yourself and GET RID OF IT. Besides, if it gets whacked by a car it's going to suffer before someone gets to it.

All the best on your decision.

Rooster is in shed...catch him, tie his feet together, carry him dangling back to his home and hand him to the owner with the warning "Next time he comes into my yard or near my birds, he will not come home but will have a kabob skewer up his rear".

Then prepare the marinade because his butt will be back...she would have been sufficently warned and he will be a tasty snack.

I just went through this with a neighbor's free ranging birds...their little bantam rooster flogged me and two days later flogged me and drew blood...I accidentially grabbed the sucker by his neck and broke it.
