I am looking for a researcher who specializes in pet duck feed formulation. Currently, the literature I have found is all related to research on ducks as agricultural animals. I want to develop a feed specifically for pet ducks and hope to find someone who can assist me.

I am willing to pay for the service as salary.

My country does not have any companies specializing in pet duck feed. I want to be the first one, and I am in need of experts in this field.

Thank you.

I can't help you personally, but where are you from? Most 'agricultural' duck feeds meet or exceed the daily requirement for ducks.

I'm curious in what way a pet duck's nutritional needs would be different. A good maintenance feed with access to foraging as well as a supplement of fresh foods should be a sustainable diet, with oyster shells or other calcium supplement if it's a female.

Very cute duck in your picture, btw. Is she yours?

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

What country are you calling from? Adding that to your profile might helpf folks make their best suggestion possible at a glance.. regarding which resources might be available to you, etc.

The following link is a good starting point and should be accurate except perhaps for Jumbo Pekin (who require more niacin).. many of us keep them (ducks or other poultry) as productive pets. They will still be layers if they are hens.

https://www.metzerfarms.com/nutritional-requirements.html

If you're attempting to turn a meat bird genetics into a longer lived pet.. that's a whole other story.

A link (below) to the feed (and company) I use, which includes their guaranteed analysis.. noting the analysis only includes what's required by law (in the states).. but if you make contact with the company (via email, etc) they will provide the full analysis. This is how I verified their niacin content was indeed 55ppm, though not listed on the tag..

I have raised many a (pet) duck from hatch to maturity and beyond without issue or need for other supplementation and also no ill side effects.. oyster shell or other free choice calcium supplement is (or should be) avaliable free choice on the side once they become of laying age though. If keeping only drakes.. no (extra) calcium supplement is required.. but having it on the side instead of mixed into a "layer" feed is what makes it more "pet" friendly if you will.

My point.. get close to that and you should be good.

Protein doesn't cause angel wing.. high energy low nutrient feeds like bread probably coupled with genetics is the most likely cause. Again see my first link for appropriate suggestions! They will meet the "pet" standard you are looking for!

Hope this helps! :fl
