Pet Peeve - "I want ONLY brown eggs"

I've heard it all too. I still pack brown, white, and green/blue in every dozen. Typically seven brown, four white, and one blue/green egg and folks still keep on buying them. My usual response to the folks who complain is "Are you eating the shells? If not they all get the same feed and the same pasture so what's inside is all the same."

Good answer. I just smile and say, "that's how we do it!" Of course, I'm thinking about how there's a family a couple booths down at the Farmers' Market who sell all brown. They also don't free range...so have at it.​

I know my grandmother would not eat blue food as its 'unnatural' I never knew about blue eggs till here... (blueberries are purple - bluebells (blue) are not to be eaten by humans, nightshade (blue or purple) too).

Besides,who would want to eat nightshade/ Thats a poison.I often tempted with the idea of growing some.

To the OP:

Farm fresh eggs should cost more than yucky store bought eggs IMO. I agree there is no taste difference between the colors. I do prefer to eat brown ones though.

But actual Atropa belladonna-deadly nightshade. Why? I dont know. Can get seeds though...very tempting.

I agree about the price- I charge a dollar more than the grocery does for their farm fresh eggs. I'm not going to beg, and I always run out of eggs.
 
Have a friend who will not eat brown eggs. God knows why because if you cook them and she doesn't see that you used brown eggs then she eats them just fine. I have a gentleman that buys very regularly from me and quite often chips in extra to help with feed and he will occasionally ask for mostly brown eggs and I will accomodate. As for the average Joe I would charge extra. I have people that say "No thanks they are only a dollar something at the store". Go ahead and eat them crap eggs I say. Have found that some of those supermarket eggs are months old. Another thing I have found as well as other customers have mentioned is the eggs don't upset my stomach like store bought ones. What does that tell ya??
 
I am VERY lucky. I have ONE man that buys all my eggs, no matter the color, size of quantity. He has a HUGE family and soemtimes buys 6 dozen at once. He just waits for me to bring them in and gladly pays me for each and every one of them.
 
I always preferred brown eggs -- when I was buying them in a store, which I did for years. It seemed to me their shells are thicker and harder, so I felt brown would taste fresher, and I still suspect this is true of store bought. Could also be that you were more likely to get free range or naturally nourished eggs from brown, I don't know.

Now, if I sold eggs and had someone who didn't want the blue or white ones, they would definitely pay more.
