Sautee okra in a non stick pan to deslime it then batter and fry or shrimp and okra gumbo whatever. Ive seen it circulating on the web that the slime is what thickens gumbo. That can't be farther from the truth. Slimey okra ruins a pot. The actual way is to sprinkle file' ( powdered sassafras) on your gumbo when it's in the bowl over the rice to eat. Never add it to the pot or like okra slime the pot will be ruined. Moral of the post is always Sautee okra to remove the slime it works wonderfullyI tried it once.
Once was enough.
It was slimy!
It was years ago, cooking dinner for a boyfriend, he saw the frozen bag & asked me...you bought okra? On purpose???
Yup...was regretting it, then regretted even more once that slime hit my mouth. Nasty! I threw it outside for the birds. Even they knew better, totally ignored it!
Not really. Just teasing him
