Pet Peeves

Also those who post .... well I don't have chickens so I can't help but maybe someone else can.
When I see a newbie having trouble that I don't know enough to help with, sometimes I'll tag people who can. I've been the newbie who needs help and was ignored (not here; different situation) and if someone had offered to go get someone who could help, that would have been... helpful.

But yeah, I know what you mean, @DukesDucks.

The crack in the skin on the end of my thumb. If you continue the line of the inside edge of the nail about another 3/16" that's where it is.

The area of your thumb that contacts the space bar. The part you flex with gripping and twisting. When I used to work at the photolab, it was close to the bit of skin that touched each print I counted in the stack. The crack would form in November, then go away in about March when the air wasn't as dry.

Hand lotion doesn't fix it. Liquid Bandage doesn't fix it. It will heal a bit, then crack deeper.
My job was what I thought caused this issue. I'm retired now. This shouldn't happen! :barnie

I used to get bad dry hands in the winter. Yes, they would crack everywhere. I would have to go to bed with bandaids and neosporin on practically every finger. Tried every lotion I could. Then it hit me. It was my hand soap! While it was fine in the summer, in the winter it was too drying. And it's just plain normal Softsoap I buy at Walmart. I can't use anything with scents because of my sensitive skin. And moisturizing soaps didn't work either. So, this winter, I started using castile soap and mixing it with water because it's concentrated. What a difference it has made! No more cracks, no more dry skin, no more pain!

Can you use it to wash your hair?

As far as soap goes, shampoo is the most "contactful soap" I get with my hands. I wear rubber gloves almost all the time for any wet work in the kitchen/bathroom.

Yes, you can. I haven't but there are instructions online or might be on the bottle of castile soap you buy

Try cocoa butter, Vitamin E or olive oil to moisturize. I make my own hand lotion with three parts cocoa butter, one part Albolene (available at Walmart or Walgreens, comes in a tub) and one part coconut oil. The latter two ingredients soften the cocoa butter to make it easier for your skin to absorb, it's the most healing ingredient.
