Pet Turkey's?

All domesticated animals can make good pets, from mice and goldfish to zebra finches, parakeets, cattle, pigs, poultry, rabbits, ferrets, dogs, horses, ect, ect, ect. Most people don't think of turkeys as pets, but they are actually intelligent, hardy, and the heritage breeds are pretty self sufficient. And they come in gorgeous arrays of colors!
I hope heritage breeds become a ton more popular in the future, as they are healthier, happier, and come in so many cool colors!

Best of luck!

My kids are just wonderful. Praying moving them will be uneventful. It's only 8 miles, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Any ideas on the easiest way to move turkeys (and Chickens for that matter)? I was going to wait til evening time, get them on towels in the backseat of our car with a blanket over them. Maybe sit between them and talk to them as we drive?

Ugh. lol

My two molting girls, Winnie and Ava, with my Buttercup (bronze) and my Priscilla (white). This is pretty recent so he looks pretty good after what we think was a stroke.

Chickens will struggle if they are fearful, so putting them in boxes may keep them calmer. Keep it paded with a towel and they should do well. The turkey can be put into a crate with a blanket or towel draped over it.

Best of luck!

I'm glad he's doing better!

I have a bronze hen.."Gertie" her feet are swollen. It is not bumblefoot. Thinking she is too heavy. Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can get the swelling down? And what feed would be recommended? She lives with chickens, we joke that she thinks she's just a big chicken. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My two bronze hens feet swell also and they are being raised with chickens and ducks. One is heavier than the other but they both love to eat. I heard they get arthritis in their joints. I haven't heard what to do for it but I give them fruits that have antioxidants in them and they like to stand in buckets of cold water.
My turkeys are very active because they free range so they get exercise which is suppose to help with their weight. I to would like to know if there is anything else that can be done.

Lurk had her first birthday party!

OMG! I love your "cake"! I know this is a very old post but I just had to compliment you on your creativity.

We have several house birds. A Sebright rooster, Silkie hen, Sebright/Silkie cross which is there off spring and two other surrogate chicks that our Silkie hatched. I make diapers for ours and we have very few accidents with them. Our Sebright sleeps in our bed and sometimes his Silie mate joins us but she does run a bit hot so often prefers to sleep in her straw nest.

I am going to have to steal your cake idea, its brilliant and all of our flock loves watermelon. Birds truly are amazing creatures and companions.

Thank you, I will forever love chickens and turkeys and will always see them just as i see my dog. Part of the family.. Haven't eaten chicken or turkey in over 5 years and have no plans to. I have a house rooster now named punkie. He is so sweet and protective. He has leg issues.
