Was it to a predator? If so, I'd reconsider free ranging. Actually, I'm not sure silkies are suited to free ranging, that's why, as much as I'd like to, I don't have any.
It's a cardboard box that they only sleep in at night. Their pen outside is 4x5 but they are only in it while we are at work then they have half an acre to roam while we watch over them.Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Is the coop finished yet? They look pretty cramped in that plastic tote. I'd move them out to the coop as soon as possible.
*I/we* stay with them while they are free.Silkies are really not suited for free ranging. Their big crests tend to reduce their vision. They are not good flyers. If you have a dog/s that would stay with them - they would be protected.
