Petting Zoo.. Need a little help.

I wanted the peacocks just for the looks... I've never had one and just want two males. The Pittsburgh Zoo has "wild" but not really wild peacocks that walk all over the zoo (only males) and it's so neat. The come really close to you and the kids throw bread at them to eat. I figured it was worth a shot.

The Pittsburgh Zoo does have at least one female I watched her when I was eating Dip and Dots ice cream. My Neighbor has 3 male peacocks they eat out of their hands

I think you can get the from hatcheries but their pricey.

Not sure if all these are 'petting zoo' quality....and I know some have already been listed.....but what about
jacob sheep
pygmy goats
shetland sheep
pigs
pot belly pigs
ducks
geese
peacocks
rabbits
turtles
fish (koi)
donkey (reg. mammoth, mini)
horses(mini, pony, shetland, even the clydesdales, belgins)
cows (dexter)

I know the local so called zoo/park around here has most of those animals in there 'petting zoo'(where you're able to feed the animals)

Thanks for all of the info I'm looking into all of them.

I can't do reptiles though, the winters are way too cold. If they can't live in a barn in the winter I can't have them.

I'm looking at:

Goats
Sheep
Minni Donkey's (found some for 300 bucks)
Ducks
Peacocks
Ponies
Cows (don't know what kind)
Pot Bellied Pigs
Turkey's (Burbon Reds)
Rabbits
Cats
Dogs
Chickens
Horse
Llama
Alpaca
Emus

Any more I forgot?

OH and by the way the Dippin Dots at the zoo are awesome!! Did you sit under that huge pavillion they just buit? I'm sure they have more females there then, if you seen one there must be another.

I would REALLY reconsider the peacocks, unless you have an area where they can be looked at, but not approached. I worked at a zoo that had several peacocks running loose and they recently had to get rid of them after many years of having them there because they just couldn't take the stress of kids chasing after them anymore. There were increased incidents of peacock on child violence, usually involving toddlers. I would hate to see you get sued by a parent whose child got spurred by a peacock. It's not a pretty sight. Have you thought about rabbits? Also maybe some fallow deer?

The first thing you need is Insurance. I am an agent and you need to have the insurance worked out before the first kid steps foot on your property. You can PM me if you want more info. Too many lawsuits these days from irate parents.

I agree I worked in the local Zoo's petting area and the Dexter Bull and Cow were by far the friendliest animals there

I would get animals I could use for something else to so Goats and Cow for milking.

I would reconcider Emu.
They are not too far up the chain of dinasaurs, and have just as nasty a personality.,

Emu and Rhea birds should be kept behind strong fences and never allowed to interact with small children nor unexperienced adults.
Those birds can do conciderable damage to flesh.
