Long Tail Egg report... we gave up on it today, we are several days past the 21st... unlike last this egg did not develop. I know from the first egg with the dead chick inside the eggs are probably fertile from the seller but incubator #1 was a total fail of eggs, all breeds, different sellers that time, unlike #2 and #3... so I am guessing not an incubator issue but mail damage this time. All the other eggs in the other incubator... I candled one it was one of the Pheonix Eggs seems to be developing okay... here is to healthy chicks down the road... knock on wood

I know how disappointing a failed hatch can be, but once you have some adults and don't have to rely on shipped eggs your hatch rates should boom. Keep us posted.

As of right now eggs are hatching we are on day 21, so far only one Black Swedish. Flower Fairy the Phoenix eggs are hatching great, there are lots of little Phoenixes. I will have a head count latter this afternoon.

How old do you guys wait to add new females? I have two females that were born mid april that I ordered, so they never ran with the flock before, but my phoenixes are (literally) free range and I want them to be old enough they can fly up 10 feet to roost with the others at night.

As of right now I think I have 11 Phoenixes and 1 Svart Hona hatched.

How old do you guys wait to add new females? I have two females that were born mid april that I ordered, so they never ran with the flock before, but my phoenixes are (literally) free range and I want them to be old enough they can fly up 10 feet to roost with the others at night.

I typically wait until they're about 5-6 months of age, but mine aren't free range so you may be able to do it a bit sooner, but i'd still wait maybe another month or so. I try to make sure they're almost or about the same size as the birds they'll be housed with (unless it's a broody hen w/ chicks). If you want to though, you could try it but you may have to place them on the perch for the first couple of nights until they figure out where they're supposed to go.

Okay, thanks. I'm not too scared of the hens being aggressive to them since there are plenty of places tint birds can run to to get away, it's mostly the roosting I'm concerned about since they don't have a closed coop to protect them. Even my broodies don't nest on the ground

That’s awesome!!! Not bad for cross country lol. Can’t wait to see pics!
I did a Phoenix Svarthona cross a few years ago, it was a match made in heaven! I’m sorry I didn’t pursue it further.

I'd say you could try it now, they'll probably be fine as soon as they learn where the perch is
