Flower fairy thanks for answering all that... on the SOP what are the bantam weight ranges I should be shooting for?

Guess I better figure out a way to weight the birds so I have an idea on that.

If I remember right it is 28oz for hens and 30 oz for roosters, so the ideal weight should be a bit under 2 pounds on an adult bird. And Flowerfairy is right, there is a lot of size variation in 'bantam' Phoenix, with a lot being a lot bigger than they should be. It's something I'm still working on in a lot of my lines, the only ones I have down to a consistently small size are the blues and some of the silver gingers.

Thank you!

Does anyone know where you can find cuckoo patterned phoenixes? I saw them in the 24 hour auction page, but that was it. Never heard of them.before
I don't know of anyone who has any on backyard chickens, but you might have better luck looking on facebook on the various longtail chicken groups.

And that guy would have been Aubrey Webb, I got all of my breeding stock from him!

Yep Aubrey Webb is who I was thinking of. Last I heard sans chickens. He does taxidermy now specializes in birds... there was another guy too that had unique birds but he broke up with his girlfriend who owned the farm so he too had to sell. There has been some really great breeding projects on BYC and then everyone disappears... 😞

Check Facebook but if I was to consider adding barring I would see about just ordering some hatchery barred bantams of another breed... or eggs from eBay of a barred bantam breed. Or try and get some bantam line genetic hackle eggs... I am pretty sure it was via cross breeding they all introduced the barring
