Toni isnt much on selling any ohiki . I think to date only 3 people have any from her but dont quote me on that. She's still very focused on working with them and really doesnt hardly part with any. I cant blame her, If I went to all that trouble to get a breed over here that no one else has, I would be tight with them myself. They are something else though!!

Looks like the Long-Tail Phoenix Bantam & Standard also the Sumatra's are the way to go,because not to many folks have the PURE ones, and the way it looks everyone and their mother will have the Sussex and soon you will never be able to get your money you invested back if that's the way you are headed. Don't get me wrong I will keep my Sussex because I like them but they are headed the same place Peafowl went, no one wanting them because you could go to auctions and buy a $100.00 or $200.00 Peafowl for $15.00 to $20.00 ea

yep that sounds about right Steve.
Never saw the hole deal with the coronations myself anyway, just make them and keep that grand Greenfire charged for something else????

I'd love to buy some top quality Pheonix as well. If anyone knows a breeder in IN or a neighboring state, please post here.

I have no problem paying for good birds and shipping. I've been told a few times now that the best place to buy top quality birds is at a show. Do you agree?

can be, problem is there are VERY few phoenix ever at shows, and most wont part with them.

The best to me is Cy and he has no problem selling to the public. There are 3-4 others with great birds too, but they tend to hold on to all their stock, not really sellers, more just doing it for the love of the breed. None of these breeders do much of the "show" thing I dont think, if so, they arent the big travelers that you will see all over the country doing it.

If you'd like some names, shoot me a PM

Yep I think the Phoenix breeders are breeding for a few different things. Some are breeding strictly for tail and not so much focused on the overall birds. That's not a bad thing after all that's what a phoenix is for right!! But There are a lot out there that even though a beautiful bird will get DQ'd right off if you plan to show them. Best thing to do is make sure the birds you get are coming from someone who has the same goals in mind.

yep, that's very true. that's why most dont go to shows. Like Toni Marie said , it's a shame most judges dont even know what to look for in a good phoenix any more.
This is one reason most of the top breeders dont do the shows. Judges dont know what they are looking at. also like Travis said, many breed stickly for certain traits in their birds, that they like.... who cares what the standard says....after all, they're yours work on the traits you like.
Some breeders like the off colored legs instead of the blue slate standard. which is all fine and good, but they'll get you DQ'ed at a show.
some , like Cy work with the non molters and focus on tail and saddles, which is what I like as well, yep, that's what a phoenix is supposed to be, a rearend full of long feathers!!

so yes, do like he said, figure out what YOU want in phoenix and find a breeder who shares similar goals , you'll be happiest with their birds.
Just dont let your jaw drop too far when you see some of the upper end prices !
