Marek's Disease can be picked up from wild birds, or introducing new birds directly from someone else's flock into yours.

So I would be pretty safe with hatchery chicks right? From where I got my chickens?

They're Project Wheaten Crele Orpingtons. I discontinued the project to start a new one.

They don't resemble Orpingtons, & have a more Gamefowl type body, feathering, & spunky attitude.

Yes, you'll be safe. I wouldn't have done so each spring if it weren't safe. Unless you have Marek's Disease in your existing flock.

What breed do you like the best?

I'm really not picky when it comes to breeds. Except I don't like high Production breeds, or hybrids. I'll most like breed them to be less productive to allow them to live longer if I were to have any.

Maybe no more then 11 max, depending on the size of birds.
