How did you start keeping chickens?

I gradually was able to expand, once I told my grandpa we don't have to butcher an entire flock every 2 years. He was old fashioned, & always started with new birds every 2nd spring.

We started with one coop, then it became 2 coops, now we have a 3rd coop which was my dad's idea because he wanted to include turkeys.
