I am 1 year new to keeping chickens, and started off with 2 gorgeous Brahma hens. I've recently introduced a rooster to match and he, being a bit of a rescue job came with bad legs, infections in feather shafts and feet after prolonged scaly leg mite infection. He is now doing great. His arrival drew my attention to slm and I believe the girls had a touch of it, could well have been caught from the wild as they're free range. They have all been treated now and will be keeping a vigil. During my journey of research and trying to figure out what his legs should like under all that inflammation, bearing in mind his skin is red anyway and very large ankles and feet making it hard to tell if inflamed or not. And also that the hens have feathers that come out from beneath lifted scales, making me unsure if it was the dreaded mite or not, I searched the internet high and low but couldn't find photos of HEALTHY legs and feet. So I'm putting out this in the hope that some of you out there with such breeds could add some photos to this thread so it might be there for anyone else with this need for a reference point. I really feel the internet has a gap in this department.
Besides, who doesn't want to look at closeup photos of gorgeous feathered feet :)

Welcome to BYC!

I have a feather footed bird, but her feathers mostly got plucked out. She resembles a leg mite victim, but she's just missing pieces. 😂

Ooh yes, bless her! And she has a missing toenail like my new roo. Very useful to see the plucked feathers outside toe. And all scales smooth unlike my girls.

yep, she is missing a toenail. She is one of the most hated hens in my flock. She gets drenched in rooster booster frequently but they still get to her :l ..
